Sky is beautiful :-) I have a small Hagen Vision cage that I bought for Billy but changed because I couldn't get on with it - you would be more than welcome to it if it is of any use to you. I'm in the minority on the forum as most really rate the Hagen cages! I'm in Somerset but do the journey to Hertfordshire where my folks are on a fairly regular basis. Depending on where you are, I could drop it round on one of my trips if you did want it. No pressure...it's just sitting in my shed waiting for a home. It may be you want something different or bigger but the offer is there anyway. Ax Angelgirl that is SO very kind of you - thank you so much for the incredibly thoughtful offer, I managed to get a new Ferplast (slightly bigger than her old cage - well it was Minty's second cage he had), but I really appreciate the kind offer - thank you <3 OP the cage I had was coated, and Minty my old bugie had bitten off all the coating. What makes the Hagen one better in terms of not rusting as now I'm wondering if the 'Ferplast Palladio 4' that I got is going to do the same?? Any advice? Also wanted to show you all this photo to double check her beak is ok in terms of size.. she is certainly biting me so much recently it's really hurting my hands. Any ideas on how to stop this if at all possible? I did have a read online and I'm wondering if because I've let her fly about and be a bit of a 'queen' around my bedroom (i.e. she does whatever she wants..) I wonder if this hasn't helped, and she only steps on my hand if she wants to come out, and the other times she steps on my hand she REALLY pinches me and then flies off! If I try to hold her at all (her sat on my hand whilst I'm laid down) she does exactly the same like she is attacking my hand and pulls the skin up. Any ideas? Thanks for everyones messages - so kind and helpful as always Wishing you all a good New Year xx

I think she will grow into the feet. Joey has feet that look enormous so she is not on her own. The Hagen cages are not coated so there is none to bite off. The metal is rustproof and very strong. Not stainless steel but as good as in my experience. The one I have really took a bashing from misting, chewing and pinging and it hasn't changed one bit. The only reason I changed mine for a Ferplast was the size. I can't advise on the beak or biting. I don't have either of those problems with the boys.

Her beak is fine. As for the biting, unfortunately she is testing you out, being a typical teen and pushing the boundaries. I am going to send you a PM of a message I have sent to another member regarding this issue. It is rather a lengthy read, but bear with me. I hope it helps.

In my experience with "hen biting" I would have to say the word "No" very firmly and put her back in her cage so that she begins to understand that she does not come out and "rule the roost" as it were. She just needs to understand that you will not tolerate this behaviour. It's like sin binning her for a bit but when she realises she is nice she can stay out longer Hope Hezz can help you more out too x

Oh sky is such a little darling. I still get surprised by the different colourings you can get. I've never seen markings quite like hers. I'm with Merry and Pippin for all my awake downstairs hours (1pm to 10pm) then they go to bed and so do I. I don't fall asleep until after 2am though. I have ME and spend the majority of the year housebound. Having my two little boys to look after has made a world of difference. So sorry to hear about Minty and Milo. I hope little Sky is easing the pain of your loss. She's looking very comfortable in your room already. How do you get her back in her cage? I still struggle with M&P not staying on my hand for long enough to let me transport them. Could you post photos of her shredding toys when you get them please? I'm always interested in new ideas. M&P go through balsa blocks so fast! Xx

Before, I would be hard pressed to be able to catch hold of him. I dread ever getting a hen!

Thanks everyone for the replies! JennyB think I briefly spoke to you before as I have ME too! Sky seems to have settled into my routine quite well so goes to sleep at the same time as me and doesn't 'wake up' until I do either! Sadly her biting has become more frequent (and bloomin' painful). There's no warning either generally, I could be feeding her some egg food off my finger and she's happy eating it, then she'll just suddenly really pinch me and hold on, mega ouch! Other times it's when I try to get her to step up in her cage, she just doesn't seem to like me. Then my Dad comes in and as soon as she see's him she's fluffed up, he only has to put his finger near her and she goes nuts (as in happy and won't bite him at all!). Have tried rewarding her whilst doing step up but she isn't keen on millet and only has egg food once a week, she's not interested in any fruit or veg still either :/ really have no idea what to do next... tried saying no every time she bites and putting her back in her cage but she's literally not phased by being 'told off', she just continues to do it. It's also quite hard trying to get two hands in the cage at the same time to say 'no' and step up all at the same time. I have a pink coat hanger that I use to get her in (sounds awful...!) but she tends to jump on it and then I lower it down and pick her up and put her back in the cage. She's usually high up sat on my lights (not whilst on of course!) and as I'm not that tall I need something for her to hop on to! Hezz I meant to message you but haven't been too well but I really appreciate you messaging me with some advice!
