What a brilliant idea OP! I have also found this: Cross stitch pattern maker (there are a few to choose from) and they are free to upload a photo to convert into a cross stitch pattern. For example... This To this We could do pics of our OWN buds! Happy days

@samwiseg, I'm already doing a converted photo cross stitch! I can only manage 12mins a day due to pain & dizziness but by plodding away I've completed Brodie & am working on the background, it's going to take some time..... Here's a pic of my most recent progress (I take a pic at the start of every month)

PS, I didn't think the free software ones were that great so I paid for this to be done. The whole kit, containing the chart, fabrics & threads was around £38 I think which I think is very good value. I think I had a thread on the forum re it at the time.

starrymist you have done a great job! While we all know Brodie is lovely, a cross-stitched Brodie is wonderful too. Considering what you have to go through to do this, I am in awe. I do remember something about your thread, now you mention it. The picture Sam put up in her link is part of a whole series that the same woman has done. They are all rather beautiful. I am thinking I might have a go at one of her mini-kits. Once summer is over, that is. My hands get too hot and sweaty in this heat.

I must be mad?! Am still crocheting atm but this will definitely take me longer than the last one so... dont wait up

@samwiseg, I will of course share a pic when it's finished! You may find it easier to photocopy the chart & colour in the squares as you do them, it just makes it easier to see what you've done & not make mistakes. Given I can only manage a short time every day it does build up relatively quickly. I've only been working on this since June. Thanks Hezz. I think with many things if you approach them even a tiny bit a day you can make progress. A severely affected bed bound friend has taught herself languages this way, literally learning a word a day. After 4 yrs or so she was pretty fluent! I guess it's like that saying 'You can eat a whole elephant if you take it a bite at a time'!

A couple of pics of my latest creations, if I can get them up on here! I think we all have samwiseg1 to thank for the cross stitch ideas but firstly I did this embroidery. I saw the picture on the internet and printed it off, traced it onto a piece of old material (wish I'd used a better bit now!) and embroidered it in my own choice of colours, then put it in a frame:
Then, thanks to samwiseg1 I tackled this mini cross stitch, which has yet to be finished off and framed:
Got the cross stitch bug now and have another one to do, but am crocheting a baby blanket right now, so first things first!!

Shirls, your rooster is beautiful! I used to do embroidery as well, but don't think I ever created anything as intricate as yours.
