And there are a few others who use them as well, but who knows what could be the issue? I feel whatever it is is not just one simple little issue ............

It would depend on what the fleece has come into contact with. It could be anything from a virus to man made preservative stuff.

I don't believe it would be a virus; not on the fleece. In most cases a good hot wash and drying will kill off any underlying germs.

Smoking no i gave that up well before any birds came my way. As i said the only link is the fleece's. I've been looking at polyester's and it's basicly plastic. It's made up of polymers wich are long chains of momomers and it these are off gased as some lose one's are traped between the polymers. These are realy bad health wise apparently. Nearly all the info i've looked at refers to respiratory problems. I.ve also found that most non iron fabrics (these fleece's are) are treated with formaldehyde wich has links to respiratory problems and polyester resin gives off styrene a known carcinogen. Very impressive eh, but i confess i dont fully understand any of it. I do know thay smell a bit "chemicly" when you have a good whiff. I've kept them for now and i will never use them for anything but i'm going to look into having them tested in a lab. And a talk to the vet co's im not risking another bird untill i'm sure. But i do miss my little mate's and for them i'll get to the bottom of this. As usual thanks to everyone for there help and input

You mentioned they were Hannah Montana ones, do you think that because they are printed with images that might be why they might have the chemicals in them? I use plain coloured fleece blankets from Ikea and never had a problem, so would be interesting to hear what you find if you get them tested. I so hope you find an answer to put your mind at rest. It does seem strange that your little ones all went one after the other, so close together. But it may just be a really bad run of luck I feel so bad for all that you have been through with your buds. It's such a shame and you deserve peace of mind. Keep us all updated.

lemonade, I did wonder this myself. Particularly if they are a black market copy, and not done by whoever has the copying rights. As they were cheap, and made in China, this might well be the problem.

I know you said you dont use perfumes and fresheners but have you considered how much detergent you use to wash their covers with?
I washed one once and it caused my bird to cough a lot once it had been dried at put it on the cage for the night. I had to remove it and use something else as the perfume in that was too strong.
Just a thought x
