He likes baby sweetcorn, grapes on a stick, apple and green beans..I put them either on a wooden chopstick or suspended through the bars with a clean wooden clothes peg to hang it to the top

He is a lovely looking birdie, he has about 4 colours I can see, specks of grey on the wings, white and grey tail under the wing is mint green and blue, yellow and grey specked head, very unusual..I must confess I did get him (think it is a him anyway) from a pet shop, he does not have a breeder ring however I have read up and judging from his feet and size I am confident he was 8-10 weeks when we got him, however I fell in love and this pet shop always keeps them two to a cage, they only seemed to have about 4 in! I had visited the shop on 5 or so occasions for a look, and they are always spotless..unlike another shop I know who keeps 7 to a cage of the same size and they were obviously a lot older and a bit skittish..Pascal was not shying away or his cage mate, the shop owner has asked if I could pop in with pics and to let her know how he is settling in..and he probably needs one more toy maybe a rope based one for a rainy day I know I probably should have found a breeder, but it seems in Glasgow there are none about these days..Anyway he is a happy chappy I think

Pascal is absolutely gorgeous and looks very perky there. It is nice to hear about a good pet shop. They seem to be rare unfortunately!

Pascal is such a pretty shade of green and yellow! I will admit I laughed a little picturing him doing a victory dance on the curtain!
Back in the day when I first got a parakeet (as they are always called here, though I know budgie is a better term), we were always told to clip their flight wings so they could control their flying but not get lift. I did that with all 3 of mine to varying degrees when I first got them, and then I heard on here that that isn't the modern train of thought. When I watch Kady flying in my bedroom, I understand why flying is a joy you shouldn't deprive them of lightly, but I will say, it sure makes training easier. Hopefully at this point, though, Pascal knows he has to come to his cage to eat and drink, so he won't stay gone too long if he does escape again.

A good thing for making veggie kebabs is a bamboo skewer. Just cut the very (sharp) tip off, thread your veggies onto this. A clothes peg holds the skewer in place and budgies are happy munching on fresh food. If he feels like having a chew on the stick, well that's all right too.

Thanks for all your lovely support, it means a lot to me, especially as I was not sure doing the right things etc! He seems to be copying a load of minecraft noises at the moment..wee one has it on for 30 mins after good homework!..Had a 10 minute training session this afternoon, with the peck peck, and the ding ding (lol cuttlebone and bell toy) at the focus..he fell asleep on my hand it seemed..was amazing..he tucked a leg under his belly? I have never seen a bird sleep, but read they tuck a leg under..I stayed still for 10 minutes...his eyes were shut, then he started the cheep squawk..I have started realising a lot of the time the squawk near the food bowl and water, often means the water needs changing, a feather or seed in it..hehe yep I am so glad we got this wee one, so much joy in one little bird..He will have to come out Friday I think, then if he does do the little wonder routine on the curtain rail, I will have time to coax him down..He is better at step off now..he wont let us take him out of the cage, so I will dare a open door on the cage policy on Friday after school, I got a landing perch for the top of the cage, and we have lots of tasty pecks..I will buy some balloons for the curtain rail, hopefully my eldest can help us tie them up there..! I just want him to stretch his wings a bit..he can poo on the bookcase if he wants, I have dvds in there, and I can cover my clothes horse etc. To be fair budgie poo is not an issue, it cleans easily Pascal needs freedom for a bit

Budgie poo is an easy task, isn't it? Until you have a hen in egg-laying mode. Eeekk!!!!!! And doesn't it just warm your heart when they feel comfortable enough to sleep on you, little foot up, head tucked in? Pascal will love his time out, legitimately, this time.

He did not come out of the cage last evening, but nevermind..he had an early night, think it was due to the fact we all got up a bit earlier in the morning I left the front cage door open this morning, and tried to take him out on my finger, he just flew away to his fave perch..I am now trying the side door as it is a bit bigger I think, and have put his perch outside and some millet at the door to tempt him, his nose may get the better of him! we shall see..He is away for a nap now after his mad half hour earlier of course So I will leave him be for a bit

Hi Susebird, is it a solid landing board you have? I did get a ladder type of one, but it only fits on top of the cage it is just slightly too wide to fit across the door hatches, its rigid plastic so no give on it..I had the door opened for hours..no joy, then pascal started acting strange, he was not stepping up, and has been quite quiet..the kids are away at dads..so maybe I thought he was disturbed by the quiet!..although it has been blowing a gale and we are in a top floor old style tenement, so the wind has been whistling and roaring loudly, so maybe that has upset him..However.. I put his perch that I put outside back in place and he examined it again, peck peck, then back to stepping up on command..could be he was annoyed with the slight change?! And put a babycorn through the bars, so he is munching on that and his seed..had a wee song, and is no busy rattling his new ball toy and the fave..the bell..I will keep an eye on him of course and would call a vet for advice if he is not doing his usual in the morning..we will get there you are right, early days still, he has that much character normally, I forget he is just a tiny birdie and prey to most other animals..and things must be scary..like a baby I suppose Again glad I joined these forums

Is he starting to moult by any chance. They often go quiet at this stage. Well mine do. They are both in full flow with feathers all over the place.
