OK, so after noticing Tuppence sometimes sometimes sneezes a little. I did a little reading which lead me to airsac mites, ive also then gone on to notice she does open her mouth and sometimes click, and her tail does Bob a little but as she is my first ever budgie I couldnt tell if this is normal or not. She seems fine but now im worried but It maybe a case of being scared of what you read online lol. Can I use Ivermectin as a pre-caution to make sure she is rid of any mites she may have, or will she need to see a vet first. Like I said these things are very small that ive only noticed since reading so it maybe that she is being normal and im just worrying lol. ps the sneezing is normally after she been sat preening and clicking is normally when we've gone over to talk to her and she seems a little nervous which could all be to do with her settling in I guess

Awwww, suesbird. hward5, budgies sneeze, (fart too, apparently I can't vouch for that one!) and it makes sense that they would after a preening session, but it will not hurt to give Tuppence a drop of ivermectin as a precaution. 0.1% only, remember; this is very important. Just one drop on the skin, not the feathers, on the back of the neck. If you were sure that she has air sac mites, then you would be putting this onto her chest, but air sac mites are not that common, from what we see here on the forum. The clicking when you go near could just be a stress release, as well. I have heard this when the silly birds have been flying madly about, particularly when I want them in the cage, and they want them out!!! They do tend to end up all hot and bothered and will do this, not all of them, just one or two (usually the perpetrators) and not every time. If her beak is open and moving when she is doing this, I wouldn't worry too much. Dr Google can sometimes causes more worry than is warranted. If it helps, you could take a video of what is worrying you and we can give you an opinion, informed, or otherwise.

If she does have air sac mites hward5 this can be easily treated with Ivermectin 0.1%This is usually used for scaly mite/face where you place one drop on the skin between the shoulder blades as it were so they are unable to reach there to preen it off. However, in the case of air sac mites it is recommended that you places one drop underneath its lower mandible. Ivermectin 0.1% should be administered only 1 drop per week for 3 weeks

Well I've been reading more into the things i notice now that i can get near tuppence without her flapping about and flying away (still cant touch her though, although shes been on my hand twice and had a belly rub but soon gives up on us). I'm still getting used to everything budgie but i have found alot of things have come down to first day nerves and feel stressed so im leaving her a little longer to settle in and monitoring from outside the cage. I also covered her cage for the first time last night as im hoping this will help her sleep better and relax, as i was told first few nights only cover 3 sides. will keep you posted. Also as its payday im looking online for a few more things like Guardian Angel and the other things ive picked up on that i may need. If anyone can give a little guidence on these subjects much appreciated!! Cheers guys!!!

You can cover her over for the night from all sides; the advice about covering three sides was for the first day or two until she settled. Some people feels that this helps them. Get the Guardian Angel for sure, but you cannot go about getting heaps of meds that will just sit in the cupboard and go off. No point.

If you don't ask you don't learn . Sorry I don't know the answer but Hezz or someone will be on soon. Tuppence is lucky to have you caring so much.

Guardian Angel is a supportive supplement for sick birds. Birds go from healthy to very sick in only a day or two, so unlike owning a dog when you may have time to "wait and see", with a bird you can't afford to wait and see. It is a bit like an emergency food for birds, as their energy levels can plummet very quickly once they stop eating and then they have no chance of fighting off whatever is the cause of their illness. www.birdcareco.com/English/TheBirdCareCompany/ProductInformation/Guardian-Angel
