Their vocals are very different Marianne. I can tell Immediately when Edward is making any noise. Some times she makes this soft whimper and others a massive screech.

JoJo quacks. Sometimes it's excitement and sometimes annoyance.

I haven't heard Edward quack for a while, but I have got to know her Keep That Away sound. I can put my hand in the cage an d clean and things, but if the finger starts to point she growls.

Hens are great aren't they. They do let us know when they're unhappy. Talking of Hens, I just went to put some balls back on top of a cage and JoJo flung herself out of the cage at me, so madam is now sitting on my shoulder.

It sounds like other hens are just as unpredictable as Edward.

My new baby Pickle sounds just like your JoJo Marianne Marlow. Very pretty little chatter, but she does squawk a lot, well she was this morning. I tell you what tho, Pickle has a very long very pointed sharp looking beak!! I haven't felt it YET! JoJo is very lovely.

Personalities, well Mischief was always much quieter than Sid even in their youth and now she's in her 10th year she's very docile until Tyler comes bobbing along and she seems to love the attention (bless) yet Sid always used to get ' short shrift! Bonnie is more vocal and chirps quite a lot (although I must admit I prefer Tylers singing ) Bonnie seems to make more different sounds and has just started bobbing, it's so funny. I could and do watch them for ages. I take my morning coffee through now and sit watching them at breakfast time, it's great.

There seems to be a 'pecking order' developing (I think!) Bonnie keeps out of Mischief's way. Mischief has told her off quite gently only once or twice when she's come rather close. It's hard to say if Tyler 'prefers' Mischief as Bonnie hasn't been in breeding condition yet but he's quite gentle with Mischief even when they were mating! Yes, full on....I know.....still can't get over Mischief bless her Bonnie did go quite near them once or twice when they were 'kissing' and they stopped! Tyler (before the destructible toys came on the scene) followed Bonnie around a lot and would insist on going into the bath at the same time silly boy! He did get very rough twice and had her on her back with claws showing, which alarmed me but they both seemed to recover ok. Mischief kept well out of the way on these occasions. It's good that as I approach the cage they all stop what they're doing and fix their eyes on me, unless they're busy eating! They aren't frightened of me which is good and don't disappear into the far corner like Mischief used to when she was younger. Fascinating aren't they
