Hello everyone, I have just picked up my 6 week old budgie. He/She is gorgeous, it will step up and sit on my finger til I put it down! This is probably due to shock with it being in a new environment, but it has helped me bond already . I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is a boy or girl. I was hoping for a male. The breeder tried to tell by seeing which budgies bit harder rather by the colour of the cere. This one doesn't bite at all. Anyway I named it Elmo so it can be either. Thank you in advance. Kelly )

Welcome to the forum. What a pretty bud Elmo is. Looks like a boy but a few more weeks would help to be certain.

I am a beginner but I have studied way too many websites on budgie gender over the last week and my rather inexperienced guess would be a boy

What a little beauty. He/she looks superb. I am not so brave as to take a guess at the gender. I have seen a lot of pictures of buds and still do not feel confident to take a gamble with such a youngster.

Hmm I was about to say 'girl' but what do I know.....not a lot.....there are far more experienced budgie keepers here, I'd wait for them but...we've got a few gender confused humans that have named their budgies too young to find out that - for instance - OP's rescue Edward.....is a girl but s/he was called that before OP got her I'm sure the budgies don't mind though!

Awww Milliej, don't say that! You know loads and have helped me. Confidence is a good supporter for knowledge. Personally I only know from websites so my knowledge is extremely questionable but hey ho

And Douglas may still turn out to be Diedrie, not that I mind. I like challenging gender stereotypes

Thanks everyone, I love him to bits. He's been eating and exploring his cage today. He still jumps on my finger, and doesn't try to get away at all so hopefully this will be how he is. He has been eating millet from me when he's on the finger so hopefully taming won't be too difficult, he loves it!
