Sorry, I'm new here and posted on an existing thread about "Healthy and sick budgie droppings" but I will copy and paste.... HI folks. Please help! I have two budgies who have watery poo and looking for some advice. Looks like the second pic posted at the opening of this thread. Thought it was only one which had it so I got some baytril (0.5ml for 5-7 days) from the vet but it turns out both do and I don't know if I should give it to them or not. Their poo has got more runny than yesterday although it's not as bad as some pictures I've seen here. They've had it for about 5 days now (I think I left some fresh food in there a little too long so possible bacterial infection) and it's stressing me but also I'm stressed as they are not used to being handled and I'm not used to handling anymore. Reasons too long to explain though I love them dearly. Any advice is much appreciated, thanks. I hate catching them as they are so panicky and they stress me out. Should I clip their feathers again if I need to treat them for a few days and should I put them in a smaller cage to help me catch them? They're in a large-ish cage suitable for small parrots. I've had them about two years or so and I love them but I'm just not a natural birdie handler and have no one to help me. When I had to give baytril, I rubbed it into some grass seeds that Pippin liked to eat.
Sorry I can't help any further, don't give Epsom salts until someone more experienced comes on and can help

Sorry I can't help any further, don't give Epsom salts until someone more experienced comes on and can help Thanks for taking the time to read and reply Well, I reluctantly clipped them a little but they can still fly so just slowed them down and tried to give a dose each of baytril but with little success. The syringe plunger sticks and then when you keep trying to gradually increase pressure it suddenly moves and dispenses too quickly. So they had a taste each with a lot of squeaking and fuss! I'll get a bubble pipette from the vet tomorrow. I remember they are easier to control so hope they will get better if I persist. Not happy about giving anti-biotics though. BTW dose is 0.05ml not 0.5 as stated earlier... just hoping someone reads who will advise please. They are happy enough, eating, singing etc. Apart from watery feaces you wouldn't know there was anything amiss.

Answered on your other thread; sounds like you need a new syringe. They do tend to stick a bit when they get old, or haven't been washed out properly between doses.
Epsom salts is a constipation reliever; your birds have the opposite problem ...... I wouldn't go there, particularly as you have already gotten baytril from the vet.

What other food are you giving them? If you are giving constant wet food then that will cause wet poohs very quicky and will continually cause gut problems. Wet food is best every other day or two, or even 3 days.

Syringe is brand new out of packet though. Happily yesterday all poopies returned to normal!
