I'm wondering if Basal has enough jaw strength. I have these foraging "berries" that are round balls with a pellet type food, seeds, and fruit in some. If I hold it for him he really tries to eat bits off but if it's just sitting in his food he tries and gives up shortly. I know males tend to have less jaw strength but I would like him to enjoy these since he does have an interest.

My two boys are the exact same with the peas from the inside of Sugarsnap Peas, if I remove the peas and put them in a dish, they have a bit of a peck then don't bother with them, but if I hold them and let them eat, they get wired in Lazy little devils me thinks

Lazy sounds about right. I guess if I need I can break the little balls up and he can still pick through. If it comes to that. Maybe he will really get into them and work for it later.

I gave a foraging thing full of seeds, they grew on it, but neither of them can break them open, they just throw them about
