That's a hen all day long I to think it's a hen but it's sometimes deceiving if a flash has been used and the picture isn't clear. So just to be sure a few clearer pictures would be good.

Thanks for the extra photos. I still think it's a hen, about 6-8 weeks old looking at the bars. Is there anything stamped into the ring?

Thanks everyone. I didn't use flash on any of the pictures and she'd a little wriggler! The stamp just says the date of birth, 6 weeks is spot on! The breeder thought male but wouldn't give any guarantees as he wasn't certain. Lovely little girl it seems

Sorry I didn't see the other pictures. Yes it does look like a hen. She's very young, keep an extra eye on her as I personally wouldn't have a bird that young away from it's parents.

A lot of pet shops/breeders sell their birds from 6 weeks. I don't agree with that either starlingqueen as they would've literally just weaned. Profit profit profit

I don't think it is a hen ...... the colour is too uniform and solid, and there is no white around the nares that I can see. I think cock.

I agree about the age but I did a lot of research on the breeder etc. He doesn't let them go until they are eating/drinking/flying/landing and has got one baby there that can't get the hang of landing so he won't be sold until ready

It is IMO that a good age to leave is around 8 weeks, but this means that the breeder has to wait an extra two weeks before he can get them breeding again. Good to see that you done your research on the breeder, kudos points to you!

Ah I was trying so hard to get it right this time :/ Seems I still slightly got it wrong lol Don't worry bugs, your bird will be fine. The vast majority of birds are sold from 6 weeks old. My first one, Charlie, was 6 weeks old and he was absolutely fine. You haven't done anything wrong. It is just MY personal preference that the birds should be given a little more time with the parents, especially the dad as they learn so much from him from what I have researched.
Enjoy your bird and don't worry. Be patient with him, and you'll have lots of fun.

My last purchase had a similar coloured cere, and that has recently changed to a more whitey crème colour. I know she's a lady because young Jo-Jo was caught doing his "thing" with her today! I guess only time will tell. Some are very difficult to tell.
