I think I now realise what the problem has been. Harvey is a large bird (exhibition) and quite often when they are having a mad 5 minutes, he falls to the floor with a thump. I think his feet must have split and caused a little sore spot (not that you know it the way he battles about!!) Thankfully, they are only tiny red marks so I am hoping that Sudacrem or Savlon are doing their job. Have used Savlon up until today. He must have seen the way Pickle acted in this cage because he has been doing exactly what she did in trying to escape. He's been all over the bars and upside down and hanging from the roof! NOT doing his feet any good at all! I have now almost completely covered the cage to calm him down and make sure he sits on the soft perches. His feet don't come into direct contact with F10, I clean cage & everything with it. There is no crust or scab, it is on both feet and is just a little tiny round red spot. It is very clean and dry, so fingers crossed I am doing enough. He is a poor 'sausage' Marianne Marlow, but not so 'little'.

His feet could have become dry and cracked and the infection got in. There's no telling where the infection came from, it could be the top of a curtain rail a picture frame, anywhere he lands, you can't keep everything spotless unless you have OCD. At least you have caught it at the early stages. I had a chicken with it and she had one of the ulcer looking sores. My vet removed the whole sore, just picked it off and then cleaned it, gave her an antibiotic injection and that was it. She said a birds body walls off infections so it doesn't spread but it makes it impossible for antibiotics to get to it. The only way is to remove the whole sore and treat what's left. The sore healed up in no time and we both know how dirty chickens feet get. That's worth knowing SQ thanks for that info

The chicken didn't seem to mind and it didn't look in pain but it did bleed quite a bit but stopped quickly. She said the reason it's hard to get rid of it is because the antibiotic just doesn't get to it.

I have heard of it being done this way before and god forbid my budgies ever got this I would be armed when I go to my vet! What is nice is that she does take on board what I say despite her not dealing with budgies regularly she has dealt with other avians so we sort of share info together

Just got future reference can I ask what you all wrap the perches with? A bandage of some sort in assuming? I do hope it clears up soon for him x

Shirls, that sounds like a very likely possibility. I do hope your efforts are all he needs to heal these little sores. Tell him to behave as he won't like what happens if these sores get worse. I am so glad you were on the ball, and noticed his feet so early. Fingers crossed he is better in no time. JennyB, I have not had the need to go down this track, luckily, knock on wood, but others have used normal "human" bandages, just not the ones the birds could get their claws caught in. Even an old sheet, in strips would suffice - you would need to be sure there were no loose threads, is all.

Bea gas gone broody again! Anyway, I digress, it is handy to know regarding the chickens feet, hopefully they won't get bumble foot, but who knows!! Thankfully Harvey's feet aren't very bad at all. So am keeping up the Sudacrem treatment for now.

It is material that I have cut up and used for LOADS of different things. I made sure that there were no loose cottons by folding the material ends inwards.
