Thanks Suesbird. I will do the perch training. Right now I'm just focusing on getting him wanting to chase after the millet, as the most he is interested in doing is stretching his neck for it. xD. I'll be sure to wash the millet. Yes, its very satisfying. Hope you have a good weekend too.

So big update since the internet is being a fail and I just now resorted to using my tablet that has a broken charging port (need to get it fixed). First I noticed that Kiwi was skittish of my hands when hand feeding, so I jumped back a step. I'm putting my hand in the cage and letting grow used to it. Every couple of sessions I'm moving it a little bit closer. He's not afraid of my hands being in the cage now, just when they get close, so I got a bit to work on. I moved the food and water back down, and he has been eating from the food dish. Haven't seen him drink water yet, but he's probably doing it behind my back. Also, I'm playing budge sounds on my tablet and he really likes that! He's chirping and hopping around his cage. A lot better response than to music.

Hi hope you having good weekend, birds love noise, music, TV, radio. Sounds like he is settling in well. Food is a brilliant bribe. Well done.

Hi hope you having good weekend, birds love noise, music, TV, radio. Sounds like he is settling in well. Food is a brilliant bribe. Well done. I'm having a great weekend. I have found that out, but he loves hearing other budgies even more. Makes him hop all around the cage and sometimes chirp. Thanks.
Does anyone know when I can take the towels off his cage that I put there for security? A few days maybe? Also, there is a huge mirror behind his cage that is part of my dresser. Should I keep the towel on the back of the cage to prevent him from becoming bonded with the other bird in the mirror?

Hi there, it should be fine to remove the towel off his cage - and definitely cover the mirror or he will be glued to it! I played budgie noises to Teddy in the early days - I felt it was quite comforting for him, but I eventually stopped as I wanted him to fully adjust to living with humans - he's much more responsive to speech now. Good to hear you and Kiwi had a good weekend

Hand taming has been going well. He's getting used to my hand in the cage and doesn't try to jump away unless I move like I'm going to touch him. Another day or two of this and hopefully he'll be ready to try hand feeding again.

I did exactly the same as fluffball said... You are doing a great job DreamerHorse... Keep it up and with patience I'm sure not to far in the future there will be a pic of him sitting happily on your finger

I've been working with Kiwi a lot. I've decided to work on perch training with him. I don't have a short perch, so I had to use a pencil. But we've been practicing, and I've gotten him to step up onto my finger. Sometimes he skitters away, but I try to always end on a positive note.
He doesn't totally trust my finger as a perch yet, so he always ends up hopping off. But to think this morning he didn't know what step up was, its progress!
I don't have any pictures because he doesn't completely trust me yet. But I will soon, hopefully within the next few days.

Good to hear DreamerHorse . Have you tried holding some millet on the perch and seeing if he comes over to you?

Good to hear DreamerHorse . Have you tried holding some millet on the perch and seeing if he comes over to you? The most he will ever do for millet is stretch his neck. But its a good motivation for perch training. One bite for stepping up on the pencil, two for stepping up on my finger.

He's stepping up on my finger now without complaint, and staying on it for a while. We're making progress!

For the short time you have been together I would say the progress is fantastic. You will know when the bond has been made as Kiwi will come to you and want to be on your finger. Kepp going as you are and it will happen.
