Ok, I will try and give this a go (I say try ) - but here is an attempt at a Banner tutorial. And I expect you to have a go now I have gone to all this effort! *finger wag*
How To Create a Banner Tutorial
Personally, I use GIMP (GNU Manipulation Programme) software which you can download for free here but providing my points are understandable I think you may be able to apply it to most image maker/photoshop style programmes.
But first and foremost you will need to choose a background for your banner first!
Go to “Google Image's" and type in something fitting to your brief. For example “Summer Backgrounds” and select something that takes your fancy.
9. Now go back to your window with the banner in and select Edit, Paste As, New Layer.
10. You now have a budgie-zilla on your canvass! So to resize him select from your toolks menu on the left the “scale tool” (4th icon on the left of the tools menu)
11. If the picture is smaller than required then just do the reverse to make it bigger
12. This will then show you how to scale your image:
17. Once you have finished your banner you will need to convert it to a jpeg, jpg, png or gif.
18. So click file, export as, type the name of the file for eg “summer banner 1” select export and export again.
I do hope this helps people to get creative!
Now get busy

Go to “Google Image's" and type in something fitting to your brief. For example “Summer Backgrounds” and select something that takes your fancy.
Right click and save this to your picture folder on your laptop/pc.
Now open GIMP. It is very similar to any computer programme as far as its menus so to start a new project select file and “new”.
It will then ask you what size you require your project to be. For the forum banner enter in 1000 x 255 pixels.
You will then see a long narrow canvass and now we can start creating!
1. To open and manoeuvre your background into position select File and open and the background file you saved and it will open in a new window.
2. Once your image is displayed, select Edit menu and “copy”.
3. Return to your window with the banner canvass and select Edit, Paste As, New Layer.
4. All your image may not be displayed correctly or as you want it yet but you can move it around using the cross arrows icon in the tools menu on the left of your screen:

5. Once in position you can now decide to use whatever images on top of the background that you like again using Google Images to select a picture of a budgie or one you have of your own. Follow the same steps as to save your background picture with a budgie picture and to open it in another window.
6. Once you have chosen your budgie/budgies you now need to use the “free select” or “lasso” tool from your tools menu on the left to cut it from its background image.
6. Once you have chosen your budgie/budgies you now need to use the “free select” or “lasso” tool from your tools menu on the left to cut it from its background image.
7. Using this tool, click and hold it there then drag round the outer edge of the image you wish to cut out. It does not have to be neat as we can amend that later. Once you have joined up to where you started the image will have a moving dotted line around it.
8. Now change back to the double pointed arrow in your tool menu then select “edit” and “cut from your toolbar and you will see the piece has been taken out

12. This will then show you how to scale your image:
13. Click and drag from the corner to resize your image, then click “scale” to finish.
(NOTE: Remember, when you need to move anything you must change back to your double pointed arrow to be able to move it)
14. To make the edges of your cut image nicer, you can choose the eraser on the tool menu on the left to “rub out” bits of the background of your budgie.
15. Furthermore, you can effectively “smudge” all around him giving him a more natural edging. To do this select the finger icon on your tool menu on the left
Now for some text!
16. Select the large “A” on your tool menu on the left and click on your image where you want your text to go. You will need to resize the Text Box as it will be a bit small so use the same technique as you did for resizing your picture and just click the corner of the text box and drag it out to the size you want. Type in your text, highlight it to change the font size, colour style etc. Then select your double arrow to move the text to where you want (note you do have to touch the text rather than the box to move it)

Now if your text is not showing, it may be because it is not in the correct order in layers. If you look at the other Layers Toolbox on the right of your screen, you will be able to click and drag the text to the top of the list so it makes it visable
17. Once you have finished your banner you will need to convert it to a jpeg, jpg, png or gif.
18. So click file, export as, type the name of the file for eg “summer banner 1” select export and export again.
Your summer banner has now been saved!
Now all you need to do is upload via an image hosting website to the forum and get busy making your other two!
