does anybody know about orchids? i would be very grateful for any info i took this picture in Delamere forest, cheshire today

I think they are called Slipper Orchids, not sure though.

It's the common spotted orchid. The one you are most likely to see in the wild. Very pretty, and protected so whatever you do don't pick it.

Thanks starlingqueen I think all orchids are protected aren't they? wouldn't dream of picking any wildflower, they should all stay in the ground where they belong right i'm off to google the common spotted orchid, thanks again!!

Yes you are right, they are all protected. I suspected you probably wouldn't pick it but you never know who is reading these posts. Always good just to point these things out.

Lovely pictures @kellycarla (and on your updated thread). I googled wild spotted orchids and they look just like the ones you have seen. They are really beautiful. I have several orchids indoors (not wild ones though!) as I am a real fan.

Me too Shirls, they have been flowering since before Christmas and the flowers are just dying off now.

I'd love to see wild orchids growing. Have been on a few walks in the 'wild' but never seen any.
