With Mim and Brian's chick Arnie being 8 1/2 weeks old now, he seems to be too attached to mum and although he fledged the nest several weeks ago, he has been back inside the nest box and won't leave her, so I decided to build a juvenile flight for him, and when Mildred's chick fledges he can join him. My fear is that when Mim's chicks hatch from her second round, Arnie may throw them out, and I have seen Brian picking on Arnie trying to get him out the nest box, and trying to block him out when Arnie pops out for food.
I've got to get some soft white rope to hang and drape tomorrow (back to work after 2 weeks annual leave ) and to put some perches low down. When I transferred him I allowed him a real good fly around the bird shed before getting him in, and boy is he a flyer! He's got water at high and low level, food is on the floor in a dish, and the cuttle, grit and iodine are all in. I decided to keep all sides as mesh, so that he can see and interact with the adults in the main flight, but not actually touch them. He can still see mum and dad from where he is, so I hope that the separation won't be too upsetting for him. He has been feeding so that is a good sign, and he has been interacting with Beau through the mesh

Well, despite me saying the other day about how I wanted a rest from the breeding, if you look at the photo, you'll see a green bud (JoJo) in the breeding cage to the right of the picture, a bit of photo bombing lol Here's the story: One of the two buds I adopted last month, Bodie and Doyle (now named Cagney and Lacey) has been ripping my shed wall to pieces in the outdoor flight. Cagney has made several large holes in the shed wall and has clearly been spending hours doing it. She's wasting her time because she will only end up inside the bird shed bless her, but I have noticed that she has dropped the bond that she had with Lacey, and has really bonded strongly with JoJo, so to save my shed wall, I have put her inside the breeding cage with JoJo to build the bond more. The nest box is attached but the entrance is blocked off, but she sits on the box perch.

Thank you for he compliment mintysowner but there is nothing difficult there, simple square joints, no glue or nails, just screws so that I can dismantle it all for whatever reason should it arise.

I spent some time observing Arnie this evening, and he is all over the flight, exploring. he loves his swing and goes nuts on it. He's found the millet spray and the water bottles. He runs up and down the ladder, and tugs at the bells on the toys. I think that's a success!
