Hi,
My budgie is 4 years old, and his cere never fully changed to blue. Between his nostrils it went blue but everywhere else it stayed pink. This hasn't proven to be an issue, and I think the problem is just because he's so small. But now at the bottom of his cere, underneath the blue patch, it's discoloured and has a little brown circular mark on it. Is this something to be worried about?
Thanks! Janey

Haven't got a clue how to attach a pic, I've taken a few though. Can someone give me advice on how to put a pic in the thread?

Upload them to an image hosting site like photo bucket and post the bottom code here.

Oh! what a stunner. Such a pose. I can't really answer your question, but could it be age related. I have three budgies in that age range two male and one female. Both the males have a similar looking patch, but it is a little bit more on the beak. The female doesn't have it at all. Don't take my word for that. The more experienced members will be along to tell you better.

Thank you for your lovely comments he's called Paulie! I hope it's just age that's discolouring it, as I say he's never had a "normal" cere so I hope it's just to do with that!

I don't know why his cere has stayed like that, it is unusual but I wouldn't have thought anything to worry about. It's funny though, he looks half baby/half adult!
He's a beautiful boy!

The boys have cycles just like the girls do, where they come into and out of breeding condition, but it is not usually so noticable with the boys. It is as though he doesn't feel the urge to breed. Does he regurgitate to you or a favourite toy, mirror perhaps??

He does regurgitate to his favourite toy, and sometimes to me. Like I say I've always wondered if he's possibly a "runt" of sorts, he had two sisters and I bought him when he was 6 weeks old and they were a lot bigger than him. Compared to my nana's budgie he's tiny, in height and overall body size. I asked a forum about this a few years ago and they reckoned it could be he's more an American breed (I'm in the UK), what do you think? Not sure if that would change the recent discolouration obviously!

What is an American budgie, I always wonder? There are pet types and show types; I think they were trying to tell you he is a pet type, as in hasn't been bred for show, or from show budgie stock, and for what that is worth, nothing to do with his cere colouring.

He could possibly be a "runt" as you call it.
I had a very small but dominant bid called Monty and he was tiny but always asserted his authority. It's the only way that a small bird would survive I guess. He must have had to fight to get food from an early age.
