Agree with everything everyone has said - and why people (non budgie keepers) think that it is "just a budgie" I shall never know.
Fly high little Sky you were loved to the nth degree xx

Thank you so, so much for all of your lovely comments. I apologise for causing tears in some of you but I understand as I'm sure it reminds everyone of their own losses they have experienced. Your comments actually made me cry with your kindness! I hope when we all depart this world all of our departed buds will be up there to welcome us - although I can imagine that might be quite noisy he he he!! xx The noisier the better

Thank you so much everyone And I know samwiseg! I told someone from work what had happened and they didn't even say anything; just started talking about something else! I think people have sympathy for dogs and cats but anything smaller, people seem to have more of a "whatever" attitude.. It makes me mad! And I agree with the comments about what a lovely noise it would be!! Before I got my budgies, I never realised quite what chatterboxes they were but couldn't be without that in my life anymore! xx

I don't think that they would appreciate it if when their pet died we said "well it was only a cat or dog"

Oh daisyandtom as soon as I saw you posting on here I could tell how much you loved Sky, and your other birds too, of course! It really is heart breaking but I hope you take comfort in knowing you gave her so much love in those last two weeks, she clearly had settled with you, and like others have said I'm sure she was sadly already poorly which is just horrible. Poor little Sky. I hope the pain of your loss eases although Sky bird will never be forgotten xxx

Agreed samwiseg! And aww thanks mintysowner.. I have started to come to terms with it now. I'm still upset obviously but at least she is at peace and not in pain. The more I think about it, the more thankful I am that we stuck to the quarantine too as at least I still have my 4 other little munchkins to look after Work has been absolutely manic this week so I haven't had a chance to ring the vets for a further update on the cause of death so I'm going to give them a call tomorrow x

daisyandtom, I am so thankful as well, that you stuck with quarantining Sky. This should be a very good lesson to anyone who thinks why bother, and this seems to be going on more and more. Makes me quite cross that they put their other birds at risk for the sake of four weeks' of separation. I won't get on my soapbox in this thread, but I am so relieved and thankful that you did the right thing for all concerned.

Thanks Hezz. I have to admit in the past I have queried the length of the quarantine period myself but this has reinforced exactly why it needs to be done for this length of time. Even my husband who thinks I'm overreacting every time we quarantine has completely come around now. I've called the vets and spoke to the receptionist - the tissue samples have come back negative for psittacosis and there are no other results on the system for the post mortem. She needs to wait until the vet is back in to see if there are any other results but I am guessing there may be a chance we'll never know now

I think you are right - that it will remain a mystery. They would only be looking for the obvious, or contagious, I imagine. Hope you are doing okay??
