Rio couldn't use his foot again and he's raising his wings half off his body (not stretching, more eagle like) and they're quivering. He's acting weird and perching horizontally, leaning forward. I called the emergency vet clinic (it's the middle of the night here) and they refuse to see him since the doctors there atm don't see avians. I don't know what to do. I'll take him to a vet in the morning but what do I do right now?! Please help

Oh, Rio, I am so sorry that Rio is not feeling well. Keep him warm, covering the cage with a blanket or use a heating pad wrapped and placed on the cage. Try not to panic. Then get him to the avian vet in the morning. I hope this advice will help. Hopefully someone with more experience will be on shortly, but my best thoughts and prayers for you both.

I'm torn between thinking I should mist him and cool him down or keep him warm and comfortable. I don't know what he needs, and it's frustrating because I want to help him so much.

Put his perches down low, one end on the floor and the other just up, so that he has the option of perching without the worry of falling. I hope you get some answers tomorrow. The way you describe his perching sounds like his balance is off.

Please let us know how you get on at the vet. I hope Rio will be ok.

Thanks for all your help. I left a message at the vets last night and I'm waiting to hear when I should bring him in. This morning he's all chirpy, like it never happened. He did this last time so I chose to wait for the travel cage to arrive before I took him, but I won't make the same mistake again.

Happy to hear that Rio is feeling better this morning. I agree that you should still take him to the vet. If nothing else, for your peace of mind. Plus, a wellness check is always a good thing because you have a benchmark for weight, feather condition, etc. Good luck and hugs to you both.

Thanks for your kind words. The vet said I could bring him in tomorrow, unless they have any cancellations. I really hope he's okay until then. The only appointment they had today was impossible for me to make.
Rio hasn't wanted to play with me or come onto my hands (which he's usually dying to) for the last couple days. What's strange is that there's no other symptoms... I'm very worried about him.
I think it's ridiculous that an emergency vet clinic turns patients away. I understand that regular vets have less knowledge of avians but they could have at least seen him to see if there was anything they could recommend to help him.

He's quiet now and putting his head down a little, does he look sick? I didn't want to get too close, as to not stress him out.

Love Rio's little moon swing. Looks like he loves it also. Such a cute little bud. Hope all is well.

Sorry you've been so worried. It is awful when they are ill.
I'm no expert but I don't think he looks ill. And the fact that he is standing on one foot is a good sign, isn't it?

His moon swing is my favourite toy I ever bought him! I loved it at the store and was worried he wouldn't know what to do with it but he almost never gets down from there I appreciate you checking out the photo. He's on and off, quiet and then chirpy. By chance his travel cage came in the mail today. I tried to ease him into it twice and he got scared and flew away. I hope he goes in willingly tomorrow because I don't want him to have bad memories of it and never want to get in...

I don't think he looks ill; I do think he doesn't look happy. Is the leg he is holding up the one you are worried about rio?

He fell asleep shortly after taking that photo, Hezz. That foot is the one I was originally worried about the first time, although to be honest in all the commotion last night I don't remember if it was the same one he lost control of.
