I'm no expert but I don't think he looks ill. And the fact that he is standing on one foot is a good sign, isn't it? Sorry - I missed earlier info about foot problem. Thinking of you and Rio.

Thank you all for your kind wishes. Rio seemed okay this morning, and his vet appointment is this afternoon. I will update you all on what she says! If you have any tips to get him into his travel cage please share I don't want him to have a bad experience and never go in again. Would this string be safe to attach a toy in his travel cage?

It looks like it is, but I'm honestly not sure, it's been in my cupboard for quite a while. I guess I'll use it then to secure the toy, where he can't really get to it and buy sisal twine for next time, just to be sure.

Until I read all your post I thought, blimey, he looks all strung up. Seriously though, if the string is short it should be fine, but if it is going to be swinging about I wouldn't be too sure. Is it a long journey to the vets?

Haha It'll only be as long as it needs to be to hold his toy back from swinging. It's about 15 minutes give or take.

I see, that should be OK then.

So I took Rio to the vet and she told me that physically he's doing beautiful. She said from the outside Rio looked perfect and healthy.
She said that she suspects what happened that night might have been a seizure although she can't be sure since she didn't see it happen. She recommended keeping an eye on him and perhaps running further tests in the future.
Rio was so stressed out poor thing. A new travel cage, leaving the house for the first time and then the vet. He was screaming and super distressed when the vet grabbed him, I almost cried right there - I couldn't look. He's still pretty shaken up and has been extremely fearful of my hands since we got back. I hope he doesn't hate me and that all the training and trust we built hasn't disappeared. I feel so bad about the whole thing.

I'm glad Rio got on well at the vets. I hope he doesn't have any more seizures. I'm sure he will forgive you. I was really worried that Criswell would no longer trust me after vet visits and antibiotics but he's still friends with me although he is still a bit wary of me at times especially in the evenings as that's medicine time.

If only our budgies knew that the vets are their friends and we are trying our best to help them feel better. You will be able to regain their trust. They will remember how much fun you have together.

I hope he forgives me, I really do. I wish I could tell him that it was for the best that he saw the vet! He's been pretty wary of me, but I'm going to give him a few days and then try to play with him again.

I'm sure he'll miss playing with you and that will overcome his wariness. Bribing with treats might also help

Thanks! Rio seems to be warming up to me. I stuck my hand in his cage to put some millet in his bowl and he jumped right onto my hand without me even asking! I didn't push it, I'm just so happy he's slowly forgiving me.
