Thanks guys, I am still learning I just thought paleness/whiteness around the nostrils = hen so think that's where I was going wrong You are not necessarily wrong, it is just that quite often the light can catch where the nostrils are, making them appear much lighter ...... just something else to be aware of. The males' ceres are generally of a more dense, solid colour than the girls', if that makes any sense.
