Hello again I'm hoping to pick your brains again if that's ok.
am looking at getting a bigger cage for my 2 budgies Speedy & Sunny. they are at the moment in a relatively small cage which came with Sunny but i am learning all the time and realise that a larger cage is a good idea as i am not able to spend as much time 1 to 1 with the them as Id like. Does anyone have any experience of, or opinions on, this cage. It seems a perfect size but is generally maybe quite basic although there seems a lot of room for perches, swings, toys etc and is quite sturdy. any info or advice would be greatly appreciated - as you know i am a budgie novice
Hamberley bird cage
thank you Di

These are great cages for budgies; as you say, plenty of room for everything - perches, toys, swings etc. I know skysmum has one of these. I have something similar - mine has two doors, top and bottom, that is the only difference, and it is the best thing I have bought for my budgies. I have had it about six years and it still looks like new. Go for it, I say.

Agree with Hezz. I have the Hamberley too, it's a fantastic cage, really sturdy and well made. My boys love it.

I must say the the Hamberley cages do look sturdy. I wish I had looked more closely when I was looking for a replacement for the Ferplast. I have to ask about the paintwork, is it any better than the Ferplast range, in that is it more hen proof? Edward did start to strip the paint from this Vision cage I got them. I have pegs all over the place stopping her from getting to the paintwork.
I know this is azamin's thread, but maybe my question would be helpful to her also.

It's two boys I have OP, so I don't have the problems you are having with Edward, nor can I help you with the question about the Ferplast cage (as my last cage was the Vision 2 (Large) My two don't bite or ping the bars, but my OH has told me this morning that the Hamberley cage is powder coated if that is any help to you. I also love it for the fact that it is on wheels, so is easily moved. For the money, I don't think you could buy a better cage, but that's just my opinion, my boys love it, so I'm happy

The cage is powder-coated. Edit: Sorry, jellybean, I didn't see your post. And for what it is worth, I agree with everything you have written. It is one of the best, in my opinion.

Thank you Jellybean. & Hezz You have answered my question. Nearly all cages are now powder coated as it is the most durable at this moment in time. It will take the normal pinging that a lot of budgies do, but Edward does it with a vengeance with the intention of liberating the coating. I am going to start a new thread about Edward so as not to hijack this thread.

That's a great looking cage (looks huge!) and on ebay a good price too. I just had a look on Amazon and they're still a good price (I think!) not sure about the self assembly but never bought a cage that needed DIY before although it says just screwdriver - very easy! Hmmm interesting

The panels are just screwed together. There is nothing difficult about it. Two people make it easier, only because of the size of the panels, but one person still wouldn't have much trouble.

Well I bought it! Couldn't have had more positive replies ...thank you you've made my mind up! So the buds are moving into a new home...What I was worried about with Hamberley was no top opening but decided they'll have fun getting themselves out & on top? I think that putting together is fairly simple & figure if I can manage IKEA I'm sure I can do this. Can't wait now ...will take a photo or two. W

It's a great cage azamin, the birds will love it. Just in case you didn't know, it has 2 small doors either side of the cage. Look forward to seeing the pictures

I am so glad you got it! My birdies like to sit on the top of the top door (mine has two big front doors), do a 180 o in the air and land on the door frame to go inside. You might even find that they will fly straight in the door if they are out having a fly around. At high speed the first time, it can be a bit worrying for the human watching, but I have not seen anyone make a mistake yet.

I'm a little late haha seeing as you've already bought the cage but wanted to say that I have the same one it's a lovely large simple cage and very sturdy. There are no sharp bits etc and the powder coating is solid. My budgies love it although it did take them a while to get used to just the one door as their old cage had two doors and this new one has a lower door so it took them a while to get the hang of flying in and out of it.
