I decided to get a buddy for my lone male after the death of his mate, Stitch, earlier this year. I had no choice but to go to a local pet shop, who I told I would prefer a young male (Stitch died of ovarian cancer and it put me off females),they had a number in. The males were pointed out to me and I chose this cutie: m.imgur.com/u04HgX7I'm now doubting his gender, as young hens can have light blue ceres (so I've heard). I'm also unsure of age, the staff at the shop just said they were this year's babies, anyone have a rough figure on age? Thank you!

I wouldn't like to call on this charming budgie. It has all the looks of a male, sleek, attentive. Whatever it is a beautiful yellow face.

It is looking very much as though there are white rings around the nostrils, but the cere is very blue. I am not sure I could call this one correctly. It looks like they took the flight feathers off with a chain saw!

Thank you for the replys, I was confused myself when looking up cere charts and the like - guess I'll have to wait and see! I'm not too fussed either way. And Hezz, all feathers are intact! It's just a very bad photo on my part This birdy was flying out of the cage for a long while this morning, seems to be a strong flyer

I'd say female because of the rings round the nares but then the lower part of the cere looks to be turning darker blue....sorry I cant call it! But see in the next couple of weeks and post another pic and there maybe a more definitive result

The cere actually looks lighter this morning, and it has pinkish/purplish streaks near the nares - I'm so confused!

I know it looks like the wings have been clipped (and badly) but all feathers are intact and it was just a very bad sneaky photo! She's/he's in very good health from what I can tell
