Hi everyone - posting about Bertie this time.
Bertie is about 6 years old and I got him 2 years ago from RSPCA. A year after I got him his tail feather fell out and never grew back; he then didn't fly. He'd still run around the aviary on all the twigs and toys and I had the avian vet check him out and no problems.
A few months ago he didn't look well (fluffed up, staying in inside part of aviary). I brought him inside and saw that he would vomit his seed/veg back up. We gave him some baytrall from vets and lots off millet. He didn't improve so vet tried Tylan, he still didn't improve. We went back to vet and he was now slightly underweight and his breathing although ok, was a bit heavy. We got two powder sachets to mix together in sterilised water. The sachets were ornicure and samylin. After two weeks of being on this he improved. He was running around the cage, eating, drinking and most importantly not being sick. After several days of being ok we put him back in the aviary. He was ok for a couple of days, but I then decided to bring him in at night so he could still have some antibiotic and millet - I wanted to be sure he wouldn't relapse and be ill again. He would climb around that aviary in the day and climb up to the highest toys to sit on them. But he wasn't right I could just tell.
He's been back inside house for past two days, keeps eating and being sick. We've been the vet three times, then next port of call would be anaesthetising him to get some blood, this is something I am uncomfortable with them doing. He is so small and fragile I don't want to put him through the stress of it all. He gets worked up when I syringe antibiotics to him. I just want him to be as comfortable as possible. My gut feeling is its something terminal.
Its a long shot but has anyone had anything remotely similar? I keep thinking is it his kidneys failing or cancer. I thought he'd just got an infection to start with, but it's gone on for too long so I don't think it is anymore.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.
edit - just to add he does have an appetite still. He's just been sick then gone over and started eating millet.
