Cagney hasn't been himself in the last week but I put it down to his moult (as per usual), but on Saturday morning he refused millet so I immediately rang the vets. Fortunately, the decent vet was available that afternoon. Anyway, she said he was a "sick bird" (high temperature, fast heart rate amongst other things) & suggested he stay at least 24 hours in the hospital. To cut a very long & confusing story short, he returned home this afternoon. He's not out of the woods but as the decent vet was not working today, I'm not altogether clear of what is actually wrong. I hope to get a follow-up appt with her on Tuesday, assuming Cagney does not get worse in the meantime. He has eaten this evening (millet, seed & sugar snap peas) so there is some improvement.

Thank you all for your good wishes. Cagney is still not right this morning. He has had a little (& I mean a tiny, tiny amount) seed & millet. He is sleeping head under wing quite a bit but was quite animated when Phineas was jig-jigging on my hand so that just proves that it helps to have other buds around, even Phineas...
I have not let them out yet but think it will have to be staggered, i.e., not let Phineas out the same time as Cagney as he can be a bit boisterous.

Yes it is sweetpea is the first avian/exotic vet I have managed to find and I hope they live up to my expectations. They apparently treat all sorts of birds which is encouraging I will be hoping Cagney gets on well with Mr E Vet too, will be thinking of him xx
