Not much today, other than I think she's finished laying with a total clutch of 7, as she didn't lay another today There's still currently 3 fertile, however I'll check once more in the next couple of days. By then they should all be old enough to tell how many are fertile for sure

Update! 5 out of the 7 eggs are fertile! We have 1 that has entirely filled up the egg, so baby 1 could hatch any day now (its due tomorrow), 3 of them are about the same size, so I think they were laid in a row (probably egg 2,3 and 4)and the final one is still just a tiny red bean, so I assume he was the last egg laid 3 days ago. There's a big difference between that chick size and the rest. So all together I believe egg 1,2,3,4 and 7 are fertile As I have never had this many expected chicks before (previously the most chicks from a pair I have got was 2) I'm a little uncertain. Because of the large age gap between the 1st and 7th egg, will the bigger babies need to be hand fed eventually so the little one doesn't miss out? I've heard of this happening before. Also, one of the other eggs, possibly egg 2, has a little "hole" in the egg. The chick still looks to be fine inside however. Its not cracked all the way through either, just the top layer of the egg is gone, but there is still egg shell between the chick and the nest box. It just looks like it's been chipped at. Considering there the chick is still fine, and there is still egg shell in that place, will everything be okay like that?

Questions there that I don't think any of us are qualified to answer. I think the only thing you need to watch for with the chick missing some shell is it drying out ...... trying to think of a way to prevent that .... if the hole is only tiny, maybe a little quick-drying glue, a small square of adhesive tape such as sports support tape, but you would need to take it off when you thought the chick was due to hatch, to give it a chance if it wanted to peck through that spot .... otherwise I don't know if I have any other ideas. You an get glue pens, that might give you just that little spot of glue needed. As for chick/egg number seven, I think you will just have to watch and wait and be prepared to stand in as surrogate mum if needed.

The egg is still looking good Hezz, there's no blood or area for air to get in as it is still fully enclosed. Its a bit of a tricky situation to explain It was 18 days since egg 1 was laid yesterday, so I expect a chick at any moment now!

Unfortunately, the 5 fertile eggs has now reduced to 4, as I believe the chick inside the egg that had the crack in it didn't make it We have no chicks yet, but I checked the eggs today and all is good with the 4 of them. In one, you can see the chick move around, so I'm assuming that one will hatch anytime now. The dates I expected chicks to hatch was from when the eggs were laid not incubated, hence why none have hatched yet. I am basically jumping up and down in anticipation by now though, waiting is the hardest part

Aww sorry to hear about the one that didn't make it, I guess it just wasn't meant to be for that little one but most exciting that you still have the remaining four to watch! You are gonna be more of a proud mum than Cleo I think!

Good luck, Nic. I guess the poor broken egg, even if not completely broken, it was to be expected that the chick would be compromised. Hope the other four don't let you down.

Some bad news, one of the other 4 fertile eggs is DIS, meaning 2 chicks unfortunately didn't make it. I opened the eggs (I was certain they were DIS and considering Cleo was struggling to fit all the eggs under her, there wasn't much point keeping it with her) and one (with the crack) was barely developed, however the other looked only about 2 days from hatching- he/she was essentially fully developed Little Aladdin (friends request) is now resting peacefully with all my other buds who now fly high x This would explain why we haven't had any hatchlings yet Despite this, Cleo has done an amazing job producing 5 fertile to start with, and she still has 3 eggies looking great with their chickies

That is sad, Nic, but there might be a good reason for this. You need to accept that nature has a way of dealing with those who cannot make it through. Hopefully Cleo will have these last three to make her mark as a mother. Hugs to you and Cleo, and fingers and feathers crossed for you. xx
