You'll Need a Guardian Angel by Alec Thackery
Dont be put off that it is set in World War II as it is not your conventional "war" book but a compelling biography of a Polish Prisoner of war, the people he meets, his experiences in different camps and his survival plus escape attempts. FANTASTIC book.

Just finished reading "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. Thank you samwiseg for the recommendation, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shed a few tears at the end.

Only thing I will add is that it is now an award winning film too, I watched it after reading the book and was pleasantly surprised

Only thing I will add is that it is now an award winning film too, I watched it after reading the book and was pleasantly surprised I make a point of not seeing the movies, especially of books that I have enjoyed - too much left out, too many trivial points made into big things ....... anyway, movies are too expensive for me, so I don't really have to try too hard.

michael morpurgo: the amazing story of adolphus tipps - amazing as usual! could not put this down like all his others, thoroughly recommend:
It’s 1943, and Lily Tregenza lives on a farm, in the idyllic seaside village of Slapton. Her life is scarcely touched by the war until one day Lily and her family, along with all of the other villagers, are told to move out of their homes – lock, stock and barrel.
Soon, the whole area is out of bounds, as the Allied forces practice their landings for D-day, preparing to invade France. But Tips, Lily’s adored cat, has other ideas – barbed wire and keep-out signs mean nothing to her, nor does the danger of guns and bombs. Frantic to find her, Lily decides to cross the wire into the danger zone to look for tips herself...

I totally understand and usually agree Hezz but on this occasion I couldn't resist especially because of the actors cast

Did you finish The Book Thief Hezz? Hope you liked it. I have, and did, jellybean. Certainly a different approach to a story. I have just now picked up another book by the same author, " The Messenger". Will be interesting to see how that one goes ......
