So sorry to hear your news must be so hard for you. As I said I would have to have them in cages for some of the time, im your last resort. Hope you find the right home for your little buds. Also wishing you good luck for your health.

Hi again - thanks for your message - I appreciate what your offering and thanks but I am trying to find somewhere where they can fly freely - it's so difficult for me and you are very kind but please let me keep looking as I know it will create difficulties for you. I have managed over the last eighteen months or so and will manage for a couple more months until I find exactly what I need for them - I'm also looking for a property so have the same issues!! Kindest regards. Sue xx

I'm so sorry that you also have bird fanciers lung. As I mentioned before, I have had it for almost five years.
My birds fly free all day but are locked in at night. It's unlikely you'll find anyone that does not lock their birds in at night.
I hope you find a good home for them. X

Kindest regards. Sue xx I've looked online there doesn't seem to be any bird rescues close to us, this must be so difficult for you. Maybe advertise on gumtree or one of the other selling sites. Explain only for an aviary, and you would like to home check. Hope you find a solution and the right home for your little buds. Keep us all updated

Steve05412 , Perhaps he can help Sue...thanks for the thought...appreciated. saw this thread when it first came up and given it a lot of thought, so sorry to read they need a new home. My birds are all outside in the aviary and have been there nearly all year so are I hope hardened off to the weather, I am not sure that having 3 "house" buds would have sufficient time to acclimatise themselves before the winter really takes hold. I can't keep them in the house unfortunately as myself, o/h and daughter are all allergic to feathers. Maybe if they still need a home next spring then it could be possible that I give them a home.....hth cheers steve

That is a good point about them not being used to the cold. I hadn't thought of that.

Hi Steve - if there is anything I can help with regarding heating in the aviary I would be happy provided costs are not prohibitive. Is it something you may have looked into? Sue xxx

Hi Steve - if there is anything I can help with regarding heating in the aviary I would be happy provided costs are not prohibitive. Is it something you may have looked into? Sue xxx I may be wrong, but I am fairly sure that Steve already has heating in his bird room, and that is not his concern, but more that your birds would be going from a completely and artificially warm environment to a much less controled environment where the temperature is not quite so regulated. Most aviary owners (in the UK) have heating on thermostats that kick in around the 10-12 oC mark, which is much lower than most people have inside their houses. That is a nice gesture, all the same. I do hope you can find a solution that suits your and your budgies' needs.

Hi Hezz - thanks for the message which is very reassuring. Sounds like a wonderful solution if it works out. I would do (almost!) anything to find the right environment for these young birds. I can't bear to see birds locked in a cage but these three go to extremes to avoid being locked in the cage and are very cute - one step towards the cage and they bolt out. I tried to catch them in a net once but distressed myself and them that I gave that up! The other three I had would hop onto my finger to go into the cage of at night. All individuals with different personalities but they do copy behaviours of others. Kindest regards. Sue xx

Thanks Hezz, your spot on with the info, my lot are outside everyday so far. The thermos is set for around 12/15 deg,if I put the others in I would have to keep mine in as well and raise the temp up to probably same as a summers day. Would probably have to go through the moult again.
Will see where we are in the spring, and hopefully get something sorted

Hi all - you will be pleased to hear that I have found an ideal new home for my three babies. A heated aviary with an outdoor space not too far from where I live. I advertised on Pre-loved and was very specific about what type of home was needed. I vetted each response and even paid visits - found this home on the second visit. Now the only difficulty is going to be getting them in the cage and securing them for the short journey. I have a week and will be sorry to see them go but can rest easy that the home they are going to have other birds, a warm environment and free flight run. I would like to thank everyone on this site for all the support you gave me during this time especially those who offered a home. Anyone looking for rehoming try Pre-loved (steer clear of Gumtree dubious characters and odd requests!). Kind regards. Sue xx
