Hi
New to this Forum so will take this opportunity to say Hi.
I'm Shewy and I own a animal re-homing and rescue center.
My daughter and son in law are both Vets and I was volunteered to run the rescue center.
35 years later and still slaving away (love it really)
At the moment we have around 200 various birds (wild and domesticated) along with the various other animals in need of help.
The birds that we re-home are usually calmed and at least trained to not fear people or their hands,
The rest is up to the prospected new owner.
My own bird is a 2 year old budgerigar called Archie who is a one in a million bird.
We took him in as a lost bird, a very scared and disheveled little 6 month old.
It took 3 or 4 months just to gain his trust, but he has gone from strength to strength ever since.
Now I use him to show prospective owners what can be gained with a lot of patience.
Archie has a vocabulary of aprox. 100 words, he is fully free flight and recall trained.
Floss in the photos is aprox 4 month old, came to us by the local council and he had been left in a house after tenants left.
Very nervous and skittish, A lovely young girl wishes to re-home him, but Floss is no where near ready to handle this.
So at the moment I am working with Amy and Floss to give them both a happy life together.
I am using Archie as a copy bird, Floss will see Archie is happy with us, he should soon learn that he is not under threat,
Plus Archie is happy with other birds, but is totally bonded to me so recalls instantly when clicked and called.
So that's what is going on in my life at the moment.
Below is some photo's of Archie and Floss (not too many of Floss, camera flash skits him)
Sorry this has gone on a bit.
