I'm going to guess male, but he's very young and still has a black beak.
Is he cracking seed on his own?

If he's eating okay then he should be fine.

Good luck. I'm a novice too. I have a one year old male budgie called Squawk.

Millet is a good training tool, how long have you had him?

Millet is a good training tool, how long have you had him? This is the fifth day I've had him. He is obsessed with cleaning himself, I was sure he was itching until I enquired with the breeder hehe! I have been using Millet - he loves it ! He is very confident steps-up with no problem with the perch, but sometimes he will bite the perch!? He hand feeds great and goes mad playing with toys in his cage. I got a bigger cage the second day of having him. It's HUGE

Don't worry about him biting the perch, do you mean if you ask him to step up?

Hi bluebudgie88, welcome to the forum, he's a little beauty, reminds me of my boy Ben when he was very young. Budgies are always sorting their feathers and preening. From what you say he seems to be a really confident little guy, keep up the good work with him, be patient and the rewards will come, and when they do, it's an absolute joy
