So I have decided to start a new blog on Kiwi and Snow, since I don't have just Kiwi now. I'll start off by saying that I've been working on step up training with them. Kiwi hesitantly steps up onto my finger now, but Snow is still only stepping up onto the perch. I'm going at their own pace and hope to soon have them come of the cage on my hands. Though that doesn't mean they don't come out on their own. Snow likes flying out when my back is turned and the cage door is open. And where Snow goes, Kiwi will follow.
I've thought about it and had decided I was going to try. But the box has been up for more than a month and nothing (no eggs or mating). So I'm pretty sure I'm just going to take it down and try again some other time. I really do want baby chicks though.
I don't really know. Its possible that they are around a year or so. I got Kiwi on June 1st of last year and Snow on July 1st of last year. I guess I automatically assumed they were around six months of age when I got them. But I guess it doesn't really matter since I'm going to take the nesting box out and maybe try again in several months.
Kiwi and Snow have been doing progressively well with their step up training. Kiwi no steps up without a perch, but I have to warm him up first (stepping up onto a perch a few times). Snow is slowly getting there. She doesn't completely trust me per say, but she did take me for a shock earlier when she stepped up onto my finger (which was intended for Kiwi).
They are now enjoying some time on their play stand before bed, but will have to go back inside their cage soon due to the fact that they've been out for a few hours.
Thanks. Yea I got the gym off Amazon for about $30. Best $30 I've ever spent, as it gives them a place to be outside the cage. Not to mention Snow likes flying laps around the room, and going back and forth between the cages.
Sorry I haven't posted for the past 2 weeks. Been busy with school and I have a nasty chest cold. I've been working with Kiwi and Snow on stepping up while targeting. I taught them to target using a clicker a long while ago. They're both doing really well and while I haven't been doing much due to my cold I hope to have them flying to me one day.
