A blog about stuff, nonsense and general shenanigans that goes on with my flock/gang or otherwise know as Tykes and Hoodlums, my beautiful buds Also, Jane has been very observant in noticing the absence of little Bertie from the group, i will explain this in another post So today started off pretty much as normal with a visit to the old folks home to check on Jo and Freddy, this ritual is carried out every morning when the Tykes are released. A quick shave and a little self admiration before Bailey goes off to check out the talent he discovered yesterday. You errr interested in hanging out today, no errrr ok then maybe another time. A spot of mealworms and egg provided by our slave sorry, michelin chef sets us up for the day. A quick dip and we are ready for our daily exercise let the madness begin.

The absence of little Bertie has be noticed by Jane, i had intended to do a little post on this but ive been waiting to see how things pan out. I think i tentatively mentioned that little Bertie had been having a bit of a rough time within the flock in another thread, so this is the story. Now Bertie has always been a very nervy little chap, ever since ive had him, around five months he has gravitated more to people than the other buds, he bonded with me a little too much during his quarantine and never really appreciated being put with the other buds. It took him a good couple of weeks to move into the big cage but eventually he plucked up the courage and things were fine for a good while however Chilli and sometimes George started to bully him and knock him to the ground, not all the time but on occasion and usually when he dared to approach the girls, this i kept a very close eye on. I always said he would make a lovely only child but the arrival of Bumble seemed to be a turning point for him, he and Bumble became great friends and were always with each other, it was a joy to behold. This sadly changed last weekend when i found Bumble and him rolling around on the floor of the big cage, now Bumble has also discovered girls and they are all moulting so tensions and bad tempers are running high at the moment, it doesn't often happen but when it does i have to be on it, it would be the same in any mixed group. Little Bertie is just that, very little, not a strong chap at all so this left him shaken and he took himself off into the corner on the floor to lick his wounds at which point it was a done deal and i pulled him from the group. He is absolutely fine and has been pampered for a week with me, where we go from here im not quite sure yet, i have options, he can live with Jo and Freddy, go to my mums, who has fallen in love with him or i can re introduce him and see what happens, very carefully. I don't want him to be an only child but if that's what it takes to keep him safe then so be it. Im trying to work out why the boys pick on him, he is physically well but as i say mentally not quite right in terms of nerves, he is such a gentle soul and he seems very immature in his behaviour for his age weather this is what makes him an easy target, im not sure, its a work in progress. I will probably try re introducing him this week some time when i have time to keep a close eye, and make a decision based on how it goes. Enjoying mummy time

Your description of Bertie is how I thought Bumble would be in character. I'm so sad that their friendship is not as strong, but hormones are raging right now no doubt.
I didn't want Squawk to be an only bud either, and wonder whether I could try again now his liver is sorted out, but when I read helenmat's post about the difficulty she's having with Pickle and Buddy, it brings home how tricky it can be. Mintysowner on the other hand has had brilliant luck introducing Sol to Sky.
I'm sure Bertie is enjoying his mummy time. Bertie is adorable, I'm sure you'll do what's best for him. I'm just glad that he's having a break from the others, poor little mite.

What a sad and enduring tale. I'm glad you were on the ball and could make a difference for the boy. He looks a smashing little guy. Was he the runt of the clutch do you think. You will do what is best for him that I am sure.

Could the addition of 2 more be better than one? Would that help dynamics rather than just 2 almost having to like each other? I have no idea, just wondering

This is great I look forward to tuning in again next time!! A great first in the series of the new budgie soap. I hope there will be many more!! Fingers crossed little Bertie toughens up. He's in great hands so I'm sure his path will be a happy one... And, has the new boy Bailey found love or is there going to be trouble? Has he taken somebody else's?! (better than east enders!)

Aw, poor little Bertie, he sounds a lot like my Billybob, he's a gentle budgie too. Sometimes he doesn't enjoy being with so many other boisterous birds. So I lock him in with JoJo occasionally to give them time out.
