I recently got two budgies from a local pet store. One of them I know for sure is a boy, but this one, I'm not so sure. I wanted two boys. The woman in the pet store said they were both very young, and it was hard to tell from their beaks. It's been about a month now, and I'm still not certain if my blue is a boy or girl. Can all you experts out there help? Thanks!

Well this expert, , thinks he may be a she. You can probably hear the laughter from wherever you are. To be honest, we do have some member who are very good a sexing budgies, but I don't think any of us would be considered experts. I'm sure they will appreciate the compliment. When you do find out for sure please come back and let us know the outcome plwASE.

Thank you so much for your response! Another reason I'm wondering is that I've been reading up on the differences in behavior between boys and girls, and I read that girls tend not to be as talkative and more subdued. Well, the blue one rules the roost, so to speak. She/he is always picking on the other one, and when I put something new into their cage, she squawks and doesn't let the other one near. They're just so darned cute.

yes the females tend not to be as talkative as the boys. Subdued I would say not. The ones I have are quite loud and active and they imitate me whistling better than the boys. They bite harder and more readily. They do like to be the boss just like most females. Oops! I see you are female. They can be very friendly and affectionate one minute and the next, well Ouch!. Of course I could be completely wrong and you may well have two boys. The others will be along. We live all over the world so some are still sleeping.

I'm leaning towards a hen, if you could pop a closer pic of the cere on, taken in natural light that would be good

The photo is rather poor quality, but I would still guess at hen from what I can see.

I was going to agree with you OP, and I see Hezz and skysmum think a hen too. So both you and I are getting better at this.

Either better or just lucky, Shirls. It is a fifty fifty guess after all.

Sorry to be different but from the picture I would say cock, it seems to have a purple tinge but a better quality picture would help.

I guess I'll know for sure, if I get up one morning and find an egg or two dropped in the cage! Thanks for looking!

You won't find any eggs merlaynia unless you have given them a place to nest and nesting material.
