It's been very interesting. The Mother was so obsessed with trying to get the one chick out of the log. Once it was gone she returned to her regular self. Both parents went back to chirping/singing all day long, taking food to the remaining chick. They did not try to get that one out at all. Matter of fact, it stayed in the log till Friday 7/1. We found it at the top of the cage at the highest point. It never tried to return to the log. The parents seemed obsessed with the empty log so I removed it right away before they started nesting again. All three are doing wonderful. Mom (blue) and Dad (yellow in the background)

Lovely ending to a story with a rough start, they all look so cute. Is the second chick there also? Or am I being silly?

Here we go again. I tried Hezz's suggestion of putting newspaper in the bottom to cover up the grate. It was a lot easier to keep the cage clean that way for sure. But unfortunately, they started shredding the paper right away. With in a few hours they had created a make shift nest of newspaper shavings in the corner of the cage underneath a hanging food bowl. So I ended up removing the newspaper. I'm back to the grate at the bottom of the cage and moved the food bowls up higher so they didn't create a cave like area underneath them.
I see on the budgie monitor today that they are trying to mate again. I'm not sure where they would lay an egg. I removed anything that could resemble a nest. I guess they could lay it in the food bowl. I don't particularly want any more babies but I don't want to give up a parent either. Any other ideas?

Oh my, cant believe no one has seen this yet, I do hope they are doing alright! There must be some thing triggering this behavior..I hope someone can give you some advice. Sorry I know little to nothing about breeding.
