I love the text ninz1 has used, it's so clear and easy to read! The standard of them all is very high as usual!

I love your banner ninz1 ! And to answer your question about the text, there are two ways you can do this: 1. Type the text the same size same style TWICE and have one colour in white and one in black and then place the black one just behind it slightly to the left or right to create a border or shadow. You can also experiment with different colours for this and.. 2. As I dont always fancy some of the gimp fonts and like something a bit different, I go to places like www.cooltext.com as they have some funky fonts to choose from! When choosing one of these, it is like downloading another picture so you can still resize it to the size you want instead of changing the font size. Oh and a tip - if you want just the text to appear make sure you choose the transparency option on the last tab of cooltext before you download otherwise you will have a background on it. I hope that helps! You're so clever samwiseg! Thank you for all your tips and helpful advice. I love the cooltext idea, that's so smart! I can't wait to experiment- I am not good at the moment. My brother being my harshest critic said it wasn't very good and the budgies look too wide. He said not every budgie is as big as Imzi... oh well

Love it ninz1 ! Was this your first one ever? Haha yes... *shy face* Hubby came home and the first thing I did was show this. He said it looked ok and then started to annoy me by picking on the things that did not look right. First time dear husband, first time!! He got his dinner late

Agree with Shirls , well done. It's better than anything I could do. I just can't get the hang of it at all. I wouldn't say it's easy jellybean but I reckon with time it might get easier. Maybe samwiseg might one day when she has time to do a video tutorial??? samwiseg tutorial on the forum is quite easy to follow though. It's not easy finding the right pictures for the banner though, some budgies just don't fit so well.

One can only hope I have no idea how long it takes others to make a banner but it takes me a good half a day!! It's not easy at all. I couldn't get the rubber to become smaller which bugged me a lot! Looking back, I think the background is too plain!! Good luck to everyone who has entered.

If you go to the little right hand menu, on Gimp, ninz, there are a load of dots, smudges and all sorts, click on one of these and you will see what the erazer comes out like, but practice on something you don't need beforehand, as you wouldn't want to ruin a precious banner!! I tend to use the 'dotty' ones, there's a big one and a tiny one, all 'smudgey' or should I say 'blurred' Then make sure you come out of it as I went to move a budgie in the banner and erased half of him as I forgot to go back to the 'move' symbol!!!

Thank you Shirls. I'll definitely have a go at this and try out the different types. It would have been a lot easier had GIMP just allowed us to change rubber size on some sort of manual scroll... I'm just proud that I was able to make 2 I tried last year winter but failed terribly!

Layers is the way to go if you haven't already used them that is.

Layers is the way to go if you haven't already used them that is. Yes, all the different pictures are different layers as I copy them in as a new layer. I think that helps a lot, especially when trying to rub things out. It's still very new to me. I had learnt that I can move my layers around e.g. I wanted the pumpkin in front of the budgie not behind it

Before I had this eye problem I spent hours and hours with Gimp. I found it a brilliant application. The one thing I did learn and that was to create a folder for whatever I was creating and save, save and save whenever I changed something. I would name each file as ***01.xcf, ***02.xcf etc until I had finished. I never deleted any of them so that I could go back at a later date and change something. I have myriads of folders on my back up drives.

Ha Ha, I wasn't very good at banners, idid a few though. I made posters and things for my own website. Most of the images I created never finished up anywhere.

I did that too OP. When I made my first banner, I posted it, found a mistake - but couldn't go back to change it, so like you I save after each layer and even when completed, save it as an xcf file, as well as exporting it. One does learn by ones mistakes, well hopefully anyway!!
