Thanks for that lupin, I'll pass your message on. In the mean time proboards help have suggested this: "I double checked this with our Amazon Fire using the Silk Browser and I'm able to connect to your forum, Support, etc. with no problems. You might have them try clearing the browsing data. Settings > Apps & Games > Amazon Application Settings > Silk Browser > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data > (the first 3 options: browsing history, cookies/site data, and cached images & files). If that doesn't work, have them completely power down the device and then boot up again. On mobile devices often a cold boot (the process of starting a computer from shutdown or a powerless state) will fix most issues."

A last message from Proboards Support
"Based on that error message this is an issue with the router/ISP and not the forum or the Fire.
I recommend the member contact their ISP regarding this error message."

A bit more info lupin . You will need to go into the Advanced Settings on the hub. Check the DNS IP addresses are:- primary dns 213.120.234.10 secondary dns 213.120.234.74 If they are not the same as above you will need to reboot your broadband. If you are on a fibre optic line then you will need to reboot both the modem and the router. Otherwise just reboot the router. Then check the addresses as above.

Awww gee thanks Marianne and OP for going above and beyond the call of duty on this one . I have simply decided to bomb off the Kindle HD7 as I do not like it at all. I thought perhaps use it as simply a Kindle reader - but the fonts available on it are not adjustable enough to be comfortably readable for my particular vision capabilities. I tried in the past to use it as such and it was no use to me as a reader for books, so I swapped to using my Nexus 7 at my bedside for reading. I will be getting another tablet as soon as I have chosen one and will never again get an Amazon one. Not worth the hassle I have had with it. Thank you very much for your time and trouble.

The only problem I see with your thoughts is that if you do get another tablet you may find it is also incompatible if what the help people are saying at proboards. I doubt it very much that BT are using the wrong DNS servers. It's not impossible and they have made mistakes in the past, but in this case I think the fault lies elsewhere. Just be aware that the possibility is there. Slightly OT if I may ask what the problem is with your eyesight? Tell me to mind my own business if you want. Best of luck.

I have already said I found it is a known problem between BT and Amazon Kindle who do their own proprietary Browser, Silk, and Amazon are not hurrying at all to sort it apparently. They also do their own Kindle-ised version of Android operating system - ONLY Kindles use that. Nothing wrong with BT and their routers!! I am merely reverting to a well-tried tablet model Nexus 7 Android from 2012/2013, which I have been using constantly since 2012 on our BT router with no problem and have just bought another Nexus 7 to replace the Kindle, as I am a disabled person and need my internet contact to be smooth and not cause me trouble. I was lucky enough to find a factory-refurbished Nexus 7 which will not update its operating system any further than the one I already own. There will be NO chance of having the same trouble again in the future as it is ONLY the combination of Kindle Silk proprietry operating system with BT routers. OP - as well as now having body disabilities after surgery, I have had vision problems since aged 2 - I bashed my forehead and was left with a squint in my left eye which surgeries could not sort and the vision capabilities of the left eye have been going downhill rapidly since then (will be 70 next year) so not much vision remains in that one - right eye has been doing the work of two eyes, so is pretty tired-out and becoming unreliable. I guess that is why I am unable to tolerate more unreliability in my life from things I need to depend on. Hence the route I have chosen to take in getting rid of Kindle - have enough hassle in my life coping from day to day

I understand your frustrations completely. I had no wish to stick my nose in. Please accept my apologies. I'm glad you have got something sorted for yourself. I wish I could do the same, but there is no chance of that.

Thank you Marianne, OP and the Proboards members for your patience with my frustrations. I am a happier bunny now . I now have my refurbished Nexus 7 which is on a much more updated Android version than my older Nexus 7 and the other Kindle is now a thing of the past for me - my patience, good humour and tolerance are restored. I now have my upstairs and downstairs communications lives sorted. All that remains is to clean out the Kindle and see if daughter-in-law can use it . Thank you
