3rd egg was laid about 1/2 hour ago . Iv'e had Mak in for about 3 hr's now, she seemed content on wanting him in the cage, wouldn't stop squarking, and i only ever saw her eating that one trill topper, seems to be ok so far, Mak's been feeding her, and has been in the box numerous times now without even moving the eggs. Im hoping it stays that way as i really want to keep them together. Tazz and Sky have been mating again today, i would expect eggs from them round about thursday or friday. Tazz has been great so far too, unlike Mak he hasn't even been in the box (yet) ,he'll stick his head in sometimes to reach Sky to preen or feed her. But apart from that he hasn't been fully in.

Mak got me worried, he's been going in and out the box, ad staying in for long periods of time when Holly leaves.despite my fears he hasn't broken any eggs, infact they haven't even moved. Is it possible he's incubating them?. I remember last year i caught him sitting on the eggs, whilst the hen incubated the one chick that hatched. I can't think of anything else he could possibly be doing, and as i said i saw him do a similar thing last year.

they take turns ryan ...usually the cock does his at night ...so iv been told.... It's strange the hen keeps trying to get in the box, but the male is blocking her, or chasing her out if she gets in first (not violently). it's not violent or anything, but it is strange. i presume he's incubating them, he hasn't broken them so he has to be doing something.

I haven't seen a budgie cock incubating the eggs but I have seen a few sitting next to hen most of the time during day and only come out during night. While some others don't enter the nest box at all and call the hen outside or to the nest box entry hole to feed her.

There is nothing to worry about as long as it is not violent. it didn't seem to be for mating, once he got her out, he just sat in the nest box, i presume incubating, i opened the box slider at one point and was ontop of them. the problem was when he left i think due to clumsiness the eggs got knocked about about, and i was worried for him breaking them (as he did last year). So iv'e kept him (again), i might put him back in periodically to feed her, as that seems to work.

well today i took faith in little Mackeral and put him back (for about the tenth time). with holly, im hopefully going to keep him permanently with her now, i don't see the point in the eggs hatching if holly isn't feeding her self properly (which from my observations she isn't). So if he breaks the eggs i'll take that as a sign and not breed from them again. But so far so good, he's not in the box, (im only a lunch break though so i haven't saw him all day), i'll have too check on the eggs later though, as holly is in the box and i don't want too disturb her.

so far so good, i got back just now and holly and the 4 eggs are still ok. I asked my mother and she says Holly has been in the nestbox practically all day. And so far Mak has just gone in the box to feed, tweet and preen to her. Hopefully it stays that way. Im not expecting many more eggs from her, im guessing she'll only lay 5. but time will tell.

I don't like cocks incubating the eggs as they chose random eggs , the hen will turn her eggs to ensure a good hatch rate , with an incubating cock i always find the hatch rate is poor

since i put him in again he has done that less. Although i think he still does it now and again. but atleast so far he hasn't broken the eggs, and hasn't pestered the hen as much. he's been in with her for a day now.
