I'm all for width of a cage too lila , and get the biggest you can afford (to at least take 2 or 3 budgies) as I'm sure at some stage you will want to get another one!!!! Once you have the budgie bug!! Just one budgie for us Mmmmmm.

Thanks for the info OP - I think I will indeed stick to my original decision of a medium, tall Vision, as it seems plenty big enough for one budgie. The large vision I see is not recommended due to the bar spacing, so the medium vision is the most suitable. I had this cage or more precisely the Model L01 which housed three budgies. The bar spacing was fine, although my budgies were adults. I notice there are a number of cages all called Vision and all called Large but they are different models and prices. If you do decide on the large model, make sure you get the correct one and preferably NOT from Amazon, they are the most expensive.

Yes, it's a bit confusing as there seems to be versions 1 and 2. From what I understand, looking at the new version 2, the large has bigger bar spacing and it's I think about 14cm longer. It's just the bar spacing that put me off as it says not recommended for budgies and I read a couple of 'escape' stories for babies.

You do not want any escapees. What could be worse is a head getting stuck as a bud grows older. At least you are aware there are different versions. When I got mine there was only one. The difference in versions could reflect in the price.

The images on Zooplus are sent by users of the site, not official from Hagen. Zooplus needs to take this into consideration before posting the wrong information. It pays to be very observant as you have been lila

As long as the bar spacing is no more than 12mm then it is safe for budgies. OP, my budgies use all of their cage as well, but they get the most exercise by going side to side, rather than up and down, and I am a big believer of making them work for their keep. Budgies are too prone to obesity as it is, they need to be made to work for their keep. You really do need to keep mixing things up for them - example from here at home: Mango is usually separate from the boys for those obvious reasons, while away for four days, with #2 Son doing the budgie-honours, I told him to keep them all together but separated, with Mango having time out for an hour or two, but otherwise in the big cage while the boys were free-flight. Well, while the honey trap was in situ, Sparky lost a good few (necessary) grams, making sure that Misty didn't entirely forget who his besty really was!!!

After searching the Hagen site it would appear that the L01 & L02 are no longer produced. They now have the L11 & L12 versions which would be the ones the are on sale on various websites. I didn't go into the bar spacing or other specs, but if the information is wanted then the official Hagen site is the place to go. PDF files that Google serves up are nearly always out of date so should be viewed as such. I have fallen into that trap a few times before learning. Hezz, I agree with what you say about exercise. But if a budgie is housed in a cage that it cannot fly in then i needs some out of cage time. With a tall cage that is the real exercise that is not achievable, however they still do exercise the wing muscles but not as much. It's a bit like people that run on a treadmill not getting the same exercise as those running outside.

Yes - I contacted Hagen and they said that the L01 and 02 are not available in the UK now. They are available in the US - the brochure PDF above - and Zooplus possibly has them because Zooplus, according to Hagen, are actually German, so have non-UK stock. Up-to-date info is on the UK page, as I also posted above. Hagen have certainly been helpful today in providing info
