I am still debating that one jellybean! But I am leaning towards a green cheek in either original, cinnamon or pineapple mutation But then I just LOVE the blue crowned ones! Decisions decisions... I would also add Hezz that as your new addition is young I would advise you socialise him with everyone in the family. Reason for this is they can become attached very quickly to one member and then behave aggressively to the rest. But if all the family have seperate "out"time with him encourage with toys and rewards with each member he should then be less aggressive or bitey to others.

Merlin decided he didn't like one of my daughters and would fly at her and physically attack her face and ears. There was no way he was going to accept her even from day one. He used to reduce her to tears. Even now when she visits we have to have him in his cage and when she approaches he puffs up and violently bashes the cage in order to get to her. She never did anything to him. The first time he met her he hated her and that was it.

That is unfortunate starlingqueen but rather try to alleviate it by training than just not bothering at all

That is sad. I used to "fly" little Ditto up and down the room, just to give her the feeling of freedom, she would flap her little wings and really seemed to enjoy it. That's so sweet. She had a good but short life with you little Ditto. I occasionally fly Hector around the room, he doesn't flap, but he does direct me where to go by leaning this way and that! I called that the Hand Navigation System with Atilla, only she would nibble or tap my hand in the direction she wanted to go in.

My dads amazon parrot sometimes attacks my mum, she was walking past him once while he was sat on a stand and he snapped one of the buttons clean off her blouse! My dad can ruffle his feathers and hang him upside down and he's like a baby with him. They can be very one person oriented.

I understand that they can become very much a one-person bird. As there are only the two of us in the house now, there isn't a lot of other socialising we can do, lol. He is good with OH, but does seem to prefer me. OH has been given instructions to spend lots of time with him particularly when I am at work and he isn't. What I was really happy about was the way he was with the two little girls. They weren't scared of him, and he wasn't scared of them, both great achievements, I felt. I certainly hope Loki never takes a dislike to anyone, but there is no telling what might happen. That is a bit sad, SQ, for your daughter. Sam, I have seen that website, but thanks anyway; this way I know I won't lose it.

They always say a bird can sense someone is frightened, so its good that the girls didn't feel so.

starlingqueen, does Merlin have a sleeping place? Loki had one of those horrid furry snuggle huts that apparently he loved. Lets just say that it didn't make it home. A lot of internet sites recommend that conures (suns, anyway) should have somewhere to sleep. What is your take on this?

Merlin has a toy in the corner of his cage, quite a large parrot toy, that he sleeps behind. He only ses it at night. During the day he just naps on a perch.

I only know that he was hand raised and clipped by the breeder, hatched sometime Nov last year. The family he was with were lovely, but possibly a bit time-poor, and Mum a shift-worker. He was definitely well looked after and associated with - he certainly was not a rescue. Their circumstances had changed, but I don't know in what way. He really did come about in a very silly way: I was perusing Gumtree bird ads, as I do from time to time and OH wanted/needed to use the computer in a hurry. I had Loki's ad open, and jokingly said that OH could have the computer if I could have Loki. A throw away line, as I have done before ... look, here is my birthday present ... this birdie badly needs a new home etc. Could have knocked me down with a feather (ha ha) when he came back a bit later and said I should ring up about him. I was NOT looking that gift horse in the mouth!!!

It was recommended that I could get him a peachface nesting box instead, but I didn't want to take up that much room in his cage, so I did get him another thing - a tent, no fluffy stuff. I can take it out during the day easily. He may even have used it last night. It is still dark this morning so am not checking yet!

He's great, Marianne Marlow; thank you!! Big flaps at certain times, so I have faith that when those flight feathers finally moult out and grow though, he will have some strength all ready to be tried out. He has been given a couple of reprimands - chewing (and not letting go of!) the wings of my reading glasses!!! Chewing my earrings is a favourite as well .... anything shiny, really, but he is getting better, already, I think. So far the budgies have ignored him, and he has ignored them. I am positive that that will be very different once Loki is in the air, but am hopeful that primacy, along with dominance in numbers, will prevail over size. He weighs pretty much double the budgies. The buds are from 43gms to 53gms ... Loki is around 110gms. I have taken a video of him climbing his rope .... just have to upload it and etc ... he is really cute.
