That is a great job there Hezz. I hope you get many years of enjoyment. from it. What would really cheese me off was the fact that I would not be able to enjoy looking at the inhabitants from half the distance you mention. (shrug!) What will, be will be. Sorry, but that is the first time I have missed what I always took for granted. Thank you, OP. I can only imagine, OP. Sight is one of those things everyone who has takes for granted; it is only when it is gone or reduced in any way that we appreciate what we had. I am an avid reader and it would really reduce my enjoyment of life to not be able to hold a real, paper book and read for myself. Other reduced-sight problems would be just that - problems, but to be deprived of one of my greatest pleasures would impact on my enjoyment of life. Sorry; that was all a bit OTT, but what you said just made me stop and think.

Wow, a great achievement. I’m very short of patience when it comes to projects of that ilk

I would be interested to know what skysmum and steve05412 use for feeders/drinkers. I bought a bird bath yesterday, mostly for Loki - he is wanting a bath every day, and it has been so hot who can blame him??? He hasn't gone near it yet. Loki and Spyro are out there now; I had to clean Loki's cage and I added Spyro for company. Poor little Spyro was a bit like a rabbit in the headlights; Loki is now calling out wanting to come back inside .... I can just imagine the conversation, the one we used to have as kids ...... "Muum, can we come inside now?" "Muuum, I'm bored; there's nothing to do out here ..." ....... Muuuum! Mum! Haven't you finished cleaning yet? I need to get my ....."

Hezz, I use these for the seeds www.ferplast.com/gb/mangiatoia-fpi-4514.htmlI have 5 of them dotted all around the inside flight / cage area, have same seeds in all of them , but do change the seed mix as I give them normal seed for 3 weeks then tonic seed once a month. For water I just have 2 stainless steel bowls that hang from the mesh again on the inside area www.ferplast.com/gb/sirio.htmlWhat I have thought of but not tried yet is to get some plastic guttering cut down to aproxx 24 inches long and use that for the seeds but as yet not worked it out yet. When the summer is here I have made a bird table that sits in the flight area and on the top of that I have a plastic paint roller dish that they use as a bath www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-9-roller-tray-set/42045This I place under the section of the outside flight area that is covered by clear corrugated plastic sheeting , hopefully keeping any debris out of the water from above ie wild bird droppings, leaves etc. hth ... cheers ... steve

Thank you, Steve. I can hang things like that from the wire, using the pots that I already have. I was looking for something that couldn't be soiled buuuuuut .......

Those are the sort I have been looking for, skysmum, but do they only have them in such big containers? I found one on ebay last night that I thought might be okay, but am concerned the seed might not flow well enough. Given that it is in China and will cost about $3 all up, I might grab a couple and see how they go - no great loss if they don't work; I can still use them for water, anyway. clt80, what sort do you use? I didn't think of you when I was typing up my post, sorry.

I have been wanting to change what I use so have taken interest in what others have said they use.
I use normal seed pots that hook onto the mesh - on the inside of the budgie side of the door; makes it easy for me to open the d oor with a little bin and have access to them. They do the job and are easy to clean etc but sometimes the budgies like to use them as a bed at nighttime which isn't ideal.
I have also, like Steve, been considering using guttering. I'd find it easy to replenish and empty seed but I worry about it being uncomfortable for their feet perching on it. Edging on guttering although sturdy is thin and I think they may struggle gripping it.
For veg I put it in plastic tupperware tubs.

Well done you. Perhaps we could send our husbands away for a long time and do all those jobs that have been waiting to be done, ourselves. Looks brilliant.

Lol, suesbird, although as I remember it, you have one of the few of those OH's who actually achieve things, such as that wonderful playgym that the budgies enjoy.

My conservatory should have been finished by 15th December, we still have no tiles on the floor, they sent a pane of glass with the coating on the wrong side, the heating not working properly. no lights or fan up yet. I've had to cancel the new furniture 3 times. We built a conservatory for our adjoin neighbour and she is sitting in it with her new furniture, lights etc. and it was finished by the 8th December. Well, as the other half said, she is paying and your not!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good point but so frustrating.
Do you have problems with mice, rats etc., when you have an outdoor aviary. I can't even feed the birds now as we get rats in the garden. All due to a house going derelict for 3 years and a lady who has a rabbit and 2 dogs and not house proud at all. The are at the back of us and we can't do anything about it.
Can't wait to see your birds in there, my friend says it is 40 degrees plus today in Melbourne, be nice to have a little more warmth but that is too hot for me.

Yes that playgym was a brilliant piece of budgie kit wasn't it Hezz? My OH does try but oh how he complains about it! Now I know why his mum used to disappear when he would attempt at "fixing" something!!!
