Short attention span is definitely a problem here. He does get the idea after a few days on where not to go, but getting to that stage is a full-on confrontation. I feel so mean and negative having to tell him off so much with very little to reward him for. It will all sort itself out, I am sure of that, but in the meantime it is a bit stressful. I am also teaching him to "stay" as you would with a dog, so that he doesn't go places he really shouldn't - such as me walking out the door and him wanting to come with me. It seems to be working well .............. touch wood. OP, everything he has has been put there by me, so has my scent on them. I think it is that I have become a bit complacent with having budgies for so long and knowing what they want/require. I am not up to speed with Loki's requirements - his ability to wreak havoc in such a short time, the things he has focused on these couple of days. I am a bit behind the eight ball. Hopefully will get some interesting tips from the conure group .. fingers crossed anyway.

I agree with ffiscool is it like the terrible 2's? He just must think he can "try it on" with everything and inadvertently try your patience lol! Speaking out of ignorance, is there something good you can distract him with so you can give him the positive reward? Then he'll perhaps know that he gets better attention from good behaviour?

ffiscool, yes they definitely have the terrible twos/teens just like the other birds but worse than the budgies do ... probably because they can do more damage. Also, it seems, the bigger the bird the more hormonal and territorial they can be. We haven't had that yet .... still coming from all reports, he should be fully mature by the end of this year; he will be two in November. Loki and the budgie-boys spent most of yesterday in the aviary. Poor Misty was a little stressed to start with (it was his first time), Spyro had been out there before with Loki, so was a little more settled, and Loki was fine, seemed to enjoy the company .... I think he would be lonely on his own. They were out there from around mid-morning to mid-afternoon, so a decent stretch of time. Loki started calling almost constantly by then and happy to come back in for a cuddle. So, all round a much better day. The aviary is still new enough to be interesting, and I took each of the partitions out so that they had the run of the whole space, not just part of it.

I'm glad they enjoyed it in the aviary. When Loki was missing you and was calling to come back in I did think what a sweet boy he is.
Time out for them and also for you is good, recharges the batteries a little, it's horrible being stressed.
@samwiseg I liked your suggestion of getting Loki to do something good so he can have a reward, bless him.

The outside are is Loki-proof, luckily, clt80, at least, and that was going to be my next move. Only thing is he gets lonely out there on his own, so I would have to move both boy budgies as well, plus move their seed and water receptacles as well as his ............. he took bites out of my rubber flip-flops when I put him on the floor (new ones, of course). skysmum, it really is like having a very naughty toddler .... I have great respect for the mums of children who have behavourial issues. Time out in his cage means yell as long and hard as humanly birdly possible so as to make sure the voice of protest is heard. He has soooo many things to chew on you could not imagine that he would need more ... he has cardboard rolls, both thick and thin, he has hard chewy perches and soft chewy perches, he has vine balls, he has sticks, he has pine cones, banksia cones, and thick pieces of bark, he has paper, he has grass, he has paper rope .. is there anything I have missed?? ..... ah well. Oh shut up, you!!! You are of no help. He is a youngster still, leave him alone. Most of the day in the aviary yesterday; I had a bit of time to set it up (food and water, grass etc) before work, so did that. I think they were all happy to come back "home" later in the afternoon, but I also think it might have done them all some good as well. Hopefully they will also take in a bit of sun while they are there.
