It's the one year anniversary today of Betsy's passing; she had been ill for almost two months. She had a strange lump on her lower abdomen that would fill will blood. It got so big our vet would syringe it to relieve some of the weight. We never knew where the blood was coming from
It was palliative care really, and Betsy came inside and lived in the room with us for over two months. I built a little labyrinth of floors for her in the cage and she'd waddle up and down the levels. She had the top corner where she'd sleep and down the bottom she'd have a platter with every veggie imaginable. She had millet and sweetcorn as well as her seed.
She would come down each morning, and be presented with a platter 7 times the size of her body!! She loved to forage around picking out what she wanted to eat.
The vet appointment continued, and Betsy seemed to be coping okay.
I went away for a couple of nights and returned late on the 14th. OH said she'd been fine who I was away, I said hello to her when I came in shortly before bedtime. The next morning she had passed. I knew the day would come but I had been dreading it. To this day I am sure she held on until I was home. God bless her.
Betsy was such a sweet little budgie, small in size and she kept herself to herself and never caused a fuss. She was blind in one eye, the vet was unsure whether it was due to an injury or if it was a cataract. She had her little branch that washer favourite that was in a corner so she could keep her good eye on everyone else. She never pair up but she was friendly with Rita. They both have similar personalities.
She is buried by the aviary next to Betty with bulbs on top of her grave.
I hope you are flying high Betsy, I wish dearly that whatever took you from me hadn't and that you were still here with us all enjoying life. You were courageous to the very end.
Until we meet again fly high my love xxxxx
