My first post on here and for me a sad one.
Our much loved budgie Tigua, died on Friday night, he had been poorly for a few weeks but was still feeding and drinking until the end. I knew the inevitable was coming and was dreading it. We had such a bond, I'm at home just about all of the time and consequently he had become very tame and developed a large vocabulary.
We had him for twelve and a half years, which I imagine, is a long life for a budgie. It seems to have made the loss feel even worse though. It's amazing how quiet and empty the house seems.
It was a privilege to have this little bird as part of our family, he was so intelligent, entertaining and just a brilliant pet, who will be missed forever.
I'm posting this on here, because I know that, only people who have enjoyed keeping these little birds, will understand. I knew that we would be upset when he finally left us but just wasn't prepared for this level of sadness. The little fella has left us with some lovely memories but at the moment the feeling of loss is just overwhelming.

I am so sorry garym. These little birds really do capture your heart. I lost 2 a couple of years ago and I hadn’t had them that long but I was heartbroken, so I can imagine how you feel. This is a the saddest part of owning pets and I know people that won’t have pets because they couldn’t face the loss. However, without people like us where would these little creatures be? The fact your budgie lived so long is testament to the love and care you put into him so hang onto that thought. Hopefully keeping in touch with the people on the forum will help you cope with your loss as many on here will empathise with you. Take care garym and fly high to your little one xxx

I'm so sorry that you lost Tigua garym. He sounds like an amazing boy and your post shows how much you love him. It is so hard saying goodbye. My budgie Criswell died in January and it broke my heart. I still have his cage mate, Dexter, but I had a very special bond with Criswell which made it so hard to say goodbye. Criswell was my first budgie and I wasn't prepared for how much I would fall in love with him. Budgies are truly amazing little friends. Do you have any photos of Tigua that you'd like to share, or stories about him? Or maybe that's too painful for you at the moment. We all understand how you feel xxx

I am so sorry for your loss. You have come to the right place as there are many of us here who have been through the same thing. You'll never forget him but over time your thoughts will become mainly those of gratefulness & happiness of having had him in your life. Fly high little Tigua - you were loved.

On Saturday morning, after burying Tigua, I said to my wife that I didn't want another budgie, even went as far as taking his cage to the dump, now looking around this site, I'm starting to think that maybe we will get another. Not yet but at as some point perhaps. I love the "fly high little Tigua" saying.

We all really know how you are feeling, in fact reading your post made me cry as I think of my beautiful budgie Pickle who I lost in August. Then I tragically lost two more in December. Believe me when I say we all completely understand. Fly High little man.

I'm so sorry that you've lost Tigua. It sounds like he had a long and happy life and was such a big part of your family. As criswell has said, if you have any photos or stories of Tigua we'd love to see them.

So sorry for your loss garym. 12 years is a very long time to own a little birdie and you will miss him enourmously. Grieve for him for a while and then get another budgie. You obviously loved and cared for Tigua for him to live that long, so I'm sure another little budgie would love to come and live with you. Fly high little Tigua, you were so loved.

You have been blessed to have had the company of such a beautiful creature for over 12 years. Losing him is going to be all the harder for you. He obviously was very much part of the family, and I am sure, that with time, you and your family will be ready to welcome another feathered friend into your "flock". My sincerest regards to you and your wife.
Rest in peace, Tiguan. Know that you were much loved and will not be forgotten. Instead, hopefully, your legacy will be another feathered addition to your loving family. xx

Thanks to you all. Well it's just over a week now since little Tigua passed and I still feel an immense sadness. Such a little bird has left a huge gap, the house feels wrong. Just been looking out of the window and snow is piling up on the cross that marks his resting place. He should be in here, in the warm, singing, talking and whistling like he always did. Got to put a smile on my face tonight, strap on my bass guitar and help to entertain a pub crowd. It won't be easy but I do need the distraction.

I know how you feel my house is so quiet since my budgie passed away. I was thinking the same about the snow weather and our budgies are outside in the cold, when they should be in the warm with us.
