Hi, I just restarted keeping budgies, and currently have 4 pairs and 3 adopted females. Used to keep them over 10 yrs ago, and had around a 100... yep crazy hehe Looking to learn more on genetics and mutations, and maybe showing in the future

Hi and welcome malti! Glad you have found us and hope you find the forum an informative and fun place to be Would love to see photos if you have got some! Do you have names for your birds? And are you going to go into showing them or just your own hobby of keeping them? Sam & the Gang

Hello and welcome from me and mine. I spent my honeymoon in Malta some 27 years ago, very fond memories of the place.

Hi, malti from Malta. I am not so sure that any one here is going to be of much help to you regarding genetics and mutations, unfortunately, but we will help out in any way we can. We have had a couple of real wizzes in genetics in the past, but due to one thing and another, we don't see them very often any more. That's not to put you off contributing, just being honest and upfront with our weaknesses.

thank you all for the welcomes samwiseg pics will be coming soon as I have some extra time I'm bad at naming birds (11 budgies atm and 2 english) so they're all baby and pretty boy etc XD maybe show them sometime, but being realistic it will be a couple of years before I can do that. Also wanting to hand-feed some babies, esp if my English budgie pair decides to give me a couple. helenmat so its your 9th or 10th anniversary soon? congrats anytime you want to visit, everyone is welcome suesbird hi back from me and my 11 (hadn't planned that much but have an empty room so the more the merrier) Hezz thank you i had a pretty good grasp on genetics and somewhere have my written notes about broods etc and my calculations where most of the time almost correct ( like percentage of blues, greens etc they were mostly my 3rd gen birds so i had their family tree up to date) but obv need to update as all available literature at that time was from the 80s. Also not sure about the fancy names, hoping someday to perhaps write a guide or something. thankyou for the honesty oh and love the vegemite mate (aussie relatives so we use mate a lot when they're around )

That would be good. Although most members have no idea of their birds' parentage, myself included, as often they are rehomes, rescues or it is unimportant to them. As for my Vegemite King - Bluey was our first, unfortunately no longer with us. I have my son to blame for starting my budgie love affair.
