Excellent info OP thank you. I'm going to have a go at this, I've only one budgie though so don't need much. Did you grow it on a sunny window ledge or shady? My kitchen window never gets any sun at all but the front of the house gets plenty, when we do get sun

It likes a bit of sunshine. But it drinks more water then. Don't worry one little budgie can munch its way through the grass.
Enjoy the experience.

Another thing one can grow. Celery, in all its glory with leaves. I read up on this and all you need is some moist/wet compost. Cut the thick end from the bottom of some Supermarket celery or fresh if you can get it. Stand this plug of celery in a dish out of direct sunlight, the cooler the better, and wait for the roots to start growing. Then put it in the compost and water it daily, still kept in a cool shaded place. As if by magic it should start to grow. Now I haven't tried this myself, but, I found some celery still in its wrapper in the fridge. I was going to feed it to the budgies, but when I took it out of the wrapper it was as sad as sad could be. It was still green and still had leaves so I put it in a jar with some water and forgot about it. When I found it a day or two later Wow! the stalks were stood upright and the leaves were starting to grow again. Now I'm going to pot it in some homemade compost and see what happens.

I must confess that things have been a bit tough here and I have been preoccupied, I have not started it yet.
But I will.

It might take a bit longer than eight days. However you should see new shoots in seven days.

That's a good sign. The birdies will be tucking in soon.

Lets hope so jellybean because in the past when I have gone to a big effort, they just ignored the food and it got wasted!

Typical budgies!! I've had some old wheatgrass seeds in the freezer - back from when I grew them for Bluey. I was having a clean-out of the freezer and found them, so decided to give them a chance to grow before being turfed out. About one third have sprouted, so offered some to Loki. Was he interested? Very! While I didn't give him many, and there were some sprouted and some not, he didn't come up for air, one sprout/seed at a time. I think he overdid it though, as shortly afterwards he pooed the messiest poo!

I say that is a lot of growth from planting day. What seeds are they? When I was growing millet I could almost guarantee that I would see the smallest shoots on the 8th day after planting.
