Usually after 8/10 days, mine are eating it. It's the French red millet I use. Go on samwiseg, give it a try, your birdies will love you for it.

So it’s just a few millet seeds in compost? I bought Chirpy some millet the other day so I can have a go too. Squawk can eat the grass if not the millet. I still haven’t planted the chickeeed and dandelion seeds I bought in February. The weather was so wet this spring that it slipped my mind until now 🙄

Look what you have created, Marianne - a whole host of millet mania ... and other things, of course.

I say that is a lot of growth from planting day. What seeds are they? When I was growing millet I could almost guarantee that I would see the smallest shoots on the 8th day after planting. They are canary seeds, also red, white and maybe yellow millet. The purple ones in the small pot are just canary seeds and the other two pots are a mixture.

I didn't even buy compost, I cheated and used the leftovers from some pots of basil I bought in asda

Marianne Marlow and OP I am so imnpressed!! I have a bag that I bought some millet in and it has a few seeds at the bottom; if I put them in compost is that all i need to do apart from water it? I would love to grow some form of grass or millet for the budgies to eat.

That's all there is to it clt80. Although, I would put the ones at the bottom of the bag into a fine sieve and blow any husks or dust off before planting.

That's exactly what I started with clt80. But I made the mistake of not using a large pot and planted too many seeds too close together. That looks good Marianne Marlow.
