Hi after reading the safe woods article I saw that Lilac was a safe wood for use for perch etc. I've chopped a chunk off the big Lilac bush. It's not exposed to pollution or anything. So I've given it a wash but do need to do anything to it before I can make a perch or toy and expose Sunny to it? For example disinfect it, dry it out or something else I haven't thought of? I'm a bit of a novice. Thank you in advance Di xxx

Having never done this myself I am not sure. Hopefully someone will be along soon that can help.

All I do with my perches is give them a scrub with washing up detergent and hot water, a dilute vinegar soak, rinse off and allow them to dry, in the sun preferably. Some people like to bake them in their oven, I never have and frankly my oven is way too small for the length of the perches anyway.
