A little update for you. Mum lost interest in the chicks on Saturday and although she was going in the nest box, she wasn't feeding Monty so I removed her from the cage. Stan (the Dad) was feeding Sid, but wasn't feeding Monty. I gave him a little time to settle into it but I ended up pulling Monty from the nest box and am hand feeding him. He's taken to it really well and seems to be doing well. I'm hoping that once he gets a bit bigger and is a little more independent Dad might feed him again but we're doing good for now.

Would it help for Stan to have the chance to feed Monty, with you providing back up feeds? How old is Monty and how many feeds a day are you giving him? (Just curious )

(Just curious ) Stan had pretty much a whole day where I returned Monty to the nest box but even when Monty went to the hole where he would feed Sid he didn't feed him. Monty is 4 weeks old and having feeds 4 hours apart.

Well done for being so vigilant and caring for little Monty. I wonder why she's stopped feeding him? I'm sure he'll thrive under your care. Love the name Monty by the way, one of my first two birds was a Monty

So he should be about ready to start foraging for himself, anyway. Is Sid feeding for himself, yet?

Love the name Monty by the way, one of my first two birds was a Monty She's out of condition, but Star last year came out of condition and still raised her chicks. I guess she's just being a bad Momma, what with the plucking as well! Obviously, she's on my 'Don't breed' list now. He's doing really well and I'm hoping he'll keep progressing.

Judging by how Sid has done, I think by the end of the week or early next week he might be about ready to start foraging for himself. Sid is still in with Stan who is still feeding him, but Sid is attempting feeding himself and was foraging this morning.

I haven't updated in a while. Sid is doing great. He#s still sharing a cage with dad Stan and still asks for food, but he's doing so well feeding himself. Being a baby, he just climbs right on in the food pot! He's also socialising with the other birds and doing so well. Monty is hand feeding fantastically well. Still on a 4-hour schedule. From when I started a week ago, he is much better at taking the food now and he also snuggles up more now. He's been in a small carrier and I've just sorted him out a larger tank for him to move into so he can move about and play a bit more while we go into the weaning process. I checked his growth process against old pictures of Sid and Monty's about 3 days behind where he should be, but he's getting there.

So last week I was away and my Mum was raising my little Monty. Here's an update on him. So while I was away he was in a large plastic container. He had an external heat mat with thermostat and a java perch which I out on the floor so he could climb and learn to perch. Since I got back, I've been keeping him in the same plastic container at night while he spends daytime in a little vision cage. He's perching, learning to climb the bars and trying to crack open shells of millets. He's utterly adorable and coming along so well.

Thank you. I believe Monty is exactly 7 weeks and one day old. probably very behind on where he should be weaning wise but he is cracking millet and eating it himself and he's super active and curious now.
