The day before yesterday, late in the evening, a lady locally found a budgie in her garden.
Yesterday, my husband and I went over to bring a cage and some food. The little budgie was approximately 2 months old, blue with a yellow face, very small, with a purple cere and not tail, his feathers were scruffy and some were missing. Some small signs of early scalyface.
He was very fluffed up and unresponsive. I took him home, with not much hope of him pulling through as he was so weak.
I put a hot water bottle underneath him as he felt cold, then syringed him some baby food, a tiny bit at a time, he seemed to ingest some then opened his eyes and looked at me.
I put him in a little carrier and made up some critical care formula. Unfortunately, while I was doing this he started flapping furiously and then passed away. Just before he died he did a black runny dropping, so I think he had internal injuries, possibly having been attacked by a cat or larger bird.
I'm so upset that I could not save him. When we can afford it, we'll get him cremated.
Fly high little fella, I'm sorry that life was so cruel to you. I hope that the hour you spent in my warm home with the sound of budgies around you was some comfort.

how sad.. but you could not have done more. the main thing I think, is that he was with someone who cared and not stuck out in the garden still somewhere.. it must have given him comfort.

What a very sad story, Marianne. But at least, as others have already said, he had someone who loved and understood him as he was dying, poor little lamb.

Aw poor little chap. You did all you could Marianne and you must find comfort in him knowing somebody cared, as you did, in his last moments.

Oh, what a sad story. It makes you wonder how he got into that situation, he must have been terrified.
As others have said, at least he found kindness and comfort before the end.

I'm sorry for making you all sad with this story, but I felt I had to mention him here as a sort of closure for my own mental health. It's really affected me emotionally.

Of course it would. You had a glimmer you could save him. But giving him his final moments of comfort, did a lot for him

We’re glad you shared Marianne Marlow as we can add our own tribute to the little guy so thank you. It’s because you’re caring that you get emotional. There is no shame in that all or apology needed.

There is definitely no apology needed Marianne Marlow, if you can't share your story here then where can you share it, we completely understand, I would have been the same.
