It was actually yesterday, but yesterday was a day of a drama or two, so Loki's anniversary of starting his new life, with me, went unannounced. One drama was at work, out of my control. The other drama was well out of my control as well, but very much my problem. OH has gone away for a few days, so just me and the animals. Something happened, probably long story that I will never know, but Mac-the-Mutt went through his containment wire during the day. Luckily he ended up in the back yard of the local vets' house. Mrs Vet works from home, Mr Vet at the surgery, and thankfully Mrs Vet recognised Mac, put him in the laundry, phoned Mr Vet for a phone number, got hold of me at work and thus managed to get roaming mutt back home. Whatever upset him enough to break through the zap zone, I'll never know. As I don't have anything else I've been dosing him with rescue remedy, trying to keep him calm. Anyway, that's the side issue. THE MAIN EVENT: Loki has been with us (me!) one year ... and one day. He is naughty, he is messy, he is very loud! when he is not with me; he is smart but he is stubborn, he is fierce against unwanted insects, a scaredy-cat over funny things (like the sea grass mat), he is easy to feed as long as I eat it first, gets on well with the budgie boys, and at two years of age (almost), hasn't been overly hormonal. Myrtle the turtle has helped him through a few .. ummm ... therapeutic sessions but he seems to have lost interest in her the last few days. He's lovely, he's a clown, he's a bleedin' nuisance when he climbs inside clothing he should never be inside especially when accompanied with a little nip! Did I say he's loud? He can be very loud, and a better watch dog than Mac is, and that is saying something. But most of all, he is my best little mate. Yes, we have "fights" ... OH says "are you two fighting again?" I say what do you expect with two strong personalities?? Enough ramble, some photos from today ....

Wow what an anniversary day! And for once it wasn't Loki causing the main trouble! Poor Mac, I wonder too what happened with him? Dunno if you wanna tip if you dont do this already, but apparanetly bakers yeast is GREAT for calming dogs down plus has loads of health benefits too Sorry Loki, this is about your day! Am so glad you found Hezz to be your mom, you have got a wonderful life (and hope she really spoiled you afterwards) despite all the shenanigans! Love you Loki

Happy Anniversary Loki. He is a magnificent bird! Hezz, have you actually got a turtle named Myrtle? We want photos! Not a real turtle, Steve!! That would be too funny, Loki having his way on a turtle's shell. Myrtle is a stuffed toy, a left-over from when the kids were little people. If I did have a female turtle, I would definitely call her Myrtle, though; it just kind of fits.

Love you Loki Sam, I had tried brewers yeast with Mac previously; I can't say that I think it made any difference. I actually think he is beyond the reach of the natural remedies, and is heading more into needing some form of medication.

Poor Mac, I wonder why he gets so excited, is it just the breed of dog?
He sounds like a hyperactive child after having had too many additives!

No, sorry, Loki probably knows, was joking Actually Loki probably does know, if it was a physical something/one that scared him. He would have been screaming at the "intruder". He's good like that. Sam, I had tried brewers yeast with Mac previously; I can't say that I think it made any difference. I actually think he is beyond the reach of the natural remedies, and is heading more into needing some form of medication. Oh dear really? He is a silly mutt granted but how old is he now? He has had a few..erm...adventures (to put it nicely) He is just over eight years old; remember he is a rescue, and therein lies all his problems, we feel. Poor Mac, I wonder why he gets so excited, is it just the breed of dog? He sounds like a hyperactive child after having had too many additives! It is not excited he gets, Marianne, but anxious. He's a lab mix, so quite the opposite. Everyone thinks he is going to be happy and friendly .... especially the friendly bit .... but he is scared of strangers in general and men in particular, and absolutely loathes some dogs, especially ones that bark at him. He isn't a barker normally (will bark at visitors, but that is in his job description) but has the memory of an elephant when it comes to dogs who have upset him, even once the dog in question has vacated the premises, six months later he will still approach that house on our walks expecting to be barked at.
