I have a 24 day old and 26 day old chicks still in the nest (though I think the older chick will leave the nest soon) and the hen has started to lay eggs again. She has shown no signs of aggression towards the existing chicks as yet. What should I do? Do I need to remove the eggs or just leave them?

I had answered the other thread ..... my suggestion was going to be either remove the hen to her own space or remove the box, and keep a very close eye on the hen for aggression towards the chicks.

I have watched a documentary on wild budgies and they are able to keep breeding different generations. They will not harm the older ones. When the conditions are good, they will just keep breeding as quickly and efficiently as they can.

They have the room to move away from the parent, or resident birds, and will have to find their own nesting hole. Birds kept in captivity are not the same as they are living in a confined space without the ability to move out of the other birds' space. The two really cannot be compared.

Sorry only just seen this. Agree with Hezz, keep a close eye on the chicks. Hopefully in another couple of weeks they will be out the nest and fledging and dad can take over.
Be cautious with your hen laying so soon, it really depletes their energy/health. If she raises the second clutch she will want to have a third no doubt and hens have been known to breed until it kills them.

Thanks everyone. I just posted some more info on my previous post called “Laying Again...” so would be appreciative of all of your opinions.
